Sauteed Apples and Raisins image

On a chilly morning, this fruity side dish warms you up. It complements just about anything you'd choose to serve for breakfast or brunch, such as the German Pancake or an egg dish or slices of warmed Canadian bacon. -Renae Moncur, Burley, Idaho

Number Of Ingredients 7

1/4 cup butter, cubed
4 large tart apples, peeled and sliced 1/4 inch thick
2 teaspoons cornstarch
1/2 cup water
1/2 cup packed brown sugar
1/4 cup golden raisins
1 teaspoon lemon juice

Steps:

  • In a large skillet, melt butter; add apples. Cook and stir over medium heat for 6-7 minutes or until almost tender. Dissolve cornstarch in water; add to skillet. Add brown sugar and raisins; bring to a boil. Boil for 2 minutes, stirring constantly. Remove from the heat; stir in lemon juice. Serve warm.

2 tablespoons butter
1 Royal Gala apple - peeled, cored and sliced
1 cup white wine
¼ cup brown sugar
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
½ teaspoon vanilla extract
⅓ cup golden raisins

Steps:

  • Melt butter in a skillet over low heat. Add apples, and increase the heat to medium-high. Cook for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally. Stir in the white wine, brown sugar, cinnamon, vanilla, and golden raisins. Cook over medium heat until the liquid has reduced and is thick.

Apple Raisin Sauce for Baked Ham image

In our home, baked ham was reserved for the holidays. Always decorated with pineapple rings, cherries and studded with cloves it still never did it for me. Then, recently, someone served this wonderful sauce over that traditional baked ham, that made my taste buds smile. I hope you will too when you try it. It's so simple and quick to make.

1 tablespoon butter
1 cup apple juice
2 tablespoons lemon juice
3 tablespoons brown sugar
1 tablespoon cornstarch
1/8 teaspoon salt
1/8 teaspoon cinnamon
1/4 cup raisins

Steps:

  • In a saucepan combine all the ingredients and bring to a simmer.
  • Cook until mixture thickens and coats the back of a spoon; approximately 10 minutes and there you have it!

This is great over vanilla ice cream or served alongside chicken or turkey. Adding a touch of vinegar and some red pepper flakes make it go great with Pork also. Basically, this sauce has a lot of uses.

1/4 cup raisins
1/4 teaspoon clove
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon

1 cup water
2 tablespoons lemon juice

Steps:

  • In medium skillet, cook apple over medium low heat in butter until tender; stir in brown sugar, raisins, cinnamon and cloves.
  • In small bowl, combine remaining ingredients; blend well then stir into apple mixture, stirring constantly.
  • Serve warm alongside poultry or over ice cream.
