Steps:
- Combine all ingredients in Medium or Large Ziploc® Brand Zip 'n Steam™ Bag.
- Seal bag and shake gently to combine ingredients. Pat ingredients into single layer. Place bag in microwave.
- Microwave on full power for 6 minutes or until apples are fork-tender.
- Allow bag to stand for 1 minute before handling. Carefully open bag and serve.
- Serve over vanilla frozen yogurt or angel food cake if desired.

Apple compote is what the French call applesauce. It is utterly simple to make, but freshly made it is several cuts above storebought. Serve it warm, for a comforting dessert, topped with a dollop of crème fraiche if you like. Or use it as a filling for crêpes

Steps:
- Place apples and water in a heavy saucepan and stir over medium-high heat until the mixture is bubbling. Reduce heat to low and cover. Cook, stirring often, until the apples have cooked down but still have some texture, 15 to 20 minutes. Add sugar, lemon or lime juice, and spices, cover and simmer for another 3 to 5 minutes. Remove from heat and allow to cool, or serve warm or hot.

Steps:
- Put the apples and pears in a pan with the sugar and 50ml water. Bring to a simmer, then gently cook, covered, for 15 mins or so until the Bramley apple has collapsed to a purée and the eating apple and pear are tender (stir to make sure it doesn't catch on the bottom).
- Stir in the cherries or cranberries for 1 min, taste and add a little more sugar if necessary. Can be chilled for 3-5 days. Serve with vanilla ice cream, if you like. See 'Goes well with' for ideas for using up the compote.
