The Easiest Homemade Spaghetti Sauce image

This rich spaghetti sauce is surprisingly easy to make. It's so thick and delicious I bet you'll never purchase the jarred stuff again!

1 tbsp olive or avocado oil
1 lb lean ground turkey or beef (I use 93% lean ground turkey.)
28 oz canned crushed tomatoes (I prefer fire-roasted.)
1/4 cup water
3 tbsp tomato paste
1 tbsp garlic (minced)
1 1/2 tsp dried oregano
1 1/2 tsp dried basil
1 tsp dried parsley
1 tsp salt
1 tsp onion powder
1/2 tsp garlic powder
1/2 tsp pepper

Steps:

  • Add oil to a skillet on the stove top. Heat to medium-high heat. Once pan is hot, add the ground meat. Saute the meat, stirring occasionally, until browned. If your turkey or beef isn't very lean you may want to drain the grease. (I find that isn't necessary when using 93% lean.)
  • Reduce heat to medium low. Add canned crushed tomatoes, water, tomato paste, garlic, oregano, basil, parsley, salt, onion powder, garlic powder, and pepper to skillet with the meat. Stir to combine. Cover and gently simmer for 10 to 15 minutes or until everything is heated through and flavors have married.
  • Serve over your favorite pasta, spaghetti squash (see my recipe for Roasted Spaghetti Squash), or zoodles. You can even add it to the top of roasted veggies for a satisfying but light meal!

I just made this one day. Started throwing stuff in my Bullet blender and "voila" a good sauce....and quick too. Note: I used a Magic Bullet Blender to make this. I'm not sure how conventional blenders would do with veggies but they could be hand chopped, it will add to total time though.

2 large tomatoes (frozen and very big)
1 garlic clove
1/2 stalk celery
3 mushrooms
1/4 red pepper
1/4 onion
2 teaspoons dried parsley
1 1/2 teaspoons dried oregano
1 teaspoon dried basil
2 teaspoons sugar (optional)
salt and pepper
pepper

Steps:

  • Note: it was easier to "render" the tomatoes when they were frozen. As they melt the water melts before the flesh so you are able to pour off the water.
  • Thaw tomatoes in microwave at 5 minute intervals on high pouring off water as it melts until there is barely any water remaining. (Bullet users: use vent lid to mic. and strain!).
  • Chop garlic, celery, onion, mushrooms, and red pepper finely.
  • Just cover with water and microwave on high till veggies are tender 5-8 minutes.
  • Drain.
  • Combine melted, strained tomatoes, cooked veggies, spices, sugar(to control tartness), and salt and pepper to taste.
  • Blend to desired consistency and heat in microwave on high for 5 minutes. Careful it will be hot! Use oven mitts.
  • Taste for spices and adjust accordingly.
  • Serve over hot cooked noodles.

I was stretched for time so wanted something easy & fast for dinner this recipe was the result. Very tasty. I don't usually buy precooked hamburger but had this one on hand to try and for an emergency it is quite good. I won't even look at what prservatives may be in it. Make this as hot or as mild as you want. I like to sprinkle parmesan chees ovr it at the table. Nice served with a green salad and a crusty roll

1 (300 g) package precooked mexican hamburger
1 (680 ml) can thick & zesty garden tomato sauce & mushrooms (or your favorite sauce)
1 cup sliced mushrooms
1 cup onion, chopped
1 stalk celery, chopped
1/2 cup sweet red pepper, chopped
1/2 cup sweet green pepper, chopped
1 tablespoon dry garlic flakes
2 jalapenos, seeded, membranes removed, finely chopped (optional)
1 teaspoon hot chili flakes (optional)

Steps:

  • Mix everything in a pot, bring to a boil & simmer 8 minutesr.
  • Serve over your favoite cooked pasta.

10 Minute Tomato Sauce from America's Test Kitchen image

Fresh tasting pasta sauce using canned crushed tomatoes as described on America's Test Kitchens. Use either Muir Glenn or Tuttoroso crushed tomatoes because they use a lower processing temperature in the canning process and therefore are fresher tasting than other brands. Recipe Notes: According to the chefs, grating the onions instead of chopping allows them to carmelize more quickly. The butter is used because saturated fats helps the onions stay sweet. Olive oil contains unsaturated fats that react with an enzyme in the onion that can result in a bitter taste. Using crushed tomatoes is preferable to other forms. The chefs apparently expended a great deal of effort in developing this simple recipe so it is suggested that it be followed closely in order to acheive a fresh tasting sauce from canned tomatoes.

Steps:

Cook 30 seconds. Add crushed tomatoes and sugar. Turn heat to high and cook with stirring until simmering. Turn heat to medium low. Simmer 10 minutes. Remove from heat. Stir in olive oil and basil. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Serve over pasta.
