Steps:
- Preheat oven to 350°F
- For base, lightly butter an 8 inch square baking dish. In a bowl, using a fork, stir flour with sugar. Work in butter until coarse crumbs form. Press over bottom of buttered dish. Bake in centre of oven until light golden, 15 to 20 minutes. Remove, but leave oven on.
- While base is baking, in a small bowl, using a fork, stir flour with salt and baking powder. In a large bowl, whisk eggs. Using a wooden spoon, stir in sugar and vanilla until evenly mixed. Then stir in walnuts, cherries, coconut and flour mixture. Spread over warm base. Bake in centre of oven until topping is golden and slightly jiggly, 20 to 30 minutes.
- Remove to a rack to cool at least 1 hour before cutting into bars. Bars cut best after refrigerating overnight. Refrigerate up to 1 week or freeze up to 1 month.
YUM YUM SAUCE
This mayonnaise-based Japanese steakhouse sauce tastes glorious with grilled shrimp, chicken and vegetables, or drizzled over a plate of fried rice. Slather it on a burger, use it as a dipping sauce for fried tofu, French fries and pizza crusts, or even as a salad dressing for crunchy iceberg, romaine or Little Gem lettuce. An all-purpose sauce for everyday pleasure, yum yum sauce should taste balanced with savoriness, sweetness and a touch of acid and gosoham, the Korean word often used to describe the nuttiness of sesame oil. Remember to salt generously so all the flavors can shine.

Thanks to a dinner party my parents had when I was a child.......20 years later and a adult, these are still some of my favorites. The combination of cake mix, chocolate, buttery carmel and nuts....man oh man...Delicious!! Though there are several steps to this recipe, it's worth the time and effort, you won't be sorry.

Another childhood recipe that I loved to make and eat growing up. Very easy as it requires no baking just stovetop cooking.

- Unwrap caramels and add to a medium size saucepan with 1/3 cup of the evaporated milk. Heat over medium-low heat until caramels are melted; stir frequently so that the caramels don't scorch.
- While the caramels are melting prepare the cake mix. In a medium bowl combine the cake mix, melted butter, and 1/3 cup of the evaporated milk. Mix until well combined. Take one-half of the cake mixture and pat out into the prepared pan. Bake in the preheated oven for 6 minutes.
- Remove from oven and pour the melted caramel sauce evenly over the baked cake mix. Sprinkle the chocolate chips over top of the caramel. (I like a lot of chocolate chips so I make sure that the cover the caramel). Take the remaining cake mix and dab over the top of the chocolate chips by taking small pieces of the batter and slightly flatten it with your fingers and place it on top of the chocolate chips.
