SAVORY PUFF PASTRY QUICHE WITH CABBAGE



Savory Puff Pastry Quiche with Cabbage image

This is a simple winter quiche made with puff pastry, sauteed cabbage, egg, and cheese. We make it often on weeknights.

2 tablespoons vegetable oil
½ medium head cabbage, sliced
1 tablespoon butter
salt to taste
1 sheet frozen puff pastry, thawed
1 egg
1 tablespoon water
1 ⅓ cups shredded Swiss cheese

Steps:

  • Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C).
  • Heat oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add cabbage and cook for about 18 minutes. Stir in butter and season with salt. Continue cooking until cabbage is soft, about 2 minutes more.
  • Roll puff pastry out on a lightly floured surface into a large square. Place into a springform pan, allowing the corners to hang over the sides.
  • Beat egg and water together in a bowl and stir in Swiss cheese.
  • Pour cooked cabbage into the pastry-lined pan and cover with egg mixture. Fold pastry corners over filling and punch together in the middle.
  • Bake in the preheated oven until pastry is golden brown, about 25 minutes.

1 refrigerated pie crust
6 ounces cheddar cheese, shredded
1 (10 ounce) can tomatoes and green chilies, drained
1 (4 ounce) can diced green chilies, drained
2 ounces diced black olives (canned)
3 eggs
1 cup sour cream
1/2 teaspoon chili powder
1/2 teaspoon paprika
1/4 teaspoon cumin
1/8 teaspoon cayenne pepper
1/8 teaspoon garlic powder

Steps:

  • Arrange pie crust in a pie plate.
  • Sprinkle shredded cheddar evenly over bottom of crust.
  • Spread drained tomatos/chilis and green chilis over cheese. Sprinkle olives over top.
  • Beat eggs, sour cream, chili powder, paprika, cumin, cayenne, and garlic powder until well mixed. Pour over mixture in pie crust.
  • Bake at 375 for 50 minutes, until firmly set. Allow to sit 5 minutes before serving.

This is one of my own creations! experimenting with ingredients, I came up with a sure to please quiche. The sausage, green chilis and cilantro give it a nice mexican flavor.

1 lb bulk Italian sausage (or pork sausage)
20 ounces condensed cream of potato soup, undiluted (2 cans)
12 eggs
1 bunch cilantro
1 (3 ounce) can diced green chilies (diced)
1 small onion, diced
3/4 cup milk
1/4 teaspoon pepper
1 cup shredded cheddar cheese

Steps:

  • In a skillet, cook sausage over medium heat until no longer pink; drain.
  • Stir in soup.
  • In a mixing bowl, beat eggs, milk and pepper; stir in sausage mixture.
  • Add chopped cilantro, green chilis and onions, add soup, stir until well blended.
  • Transfer to a lightly greased (or cooking spray) 11-in x 7-in x 2 inches baking dish.
  • Sprinkle with cheese.
  • Bake uncovered at 375* for 40-45 minutes or until a knife inserted near the center come out clean.

This quiche is beautiful & delish! If you crave something savory for breakfast try my simple quiche. These are ingredients I always have on hand and can whip this up a head of time or in the morning. Measurements can be altered to taste. If you like spicy, savory add more, if not, add less. The salsa gives this quiche a nice kick and the flavors of cilantro, sausage and potatoes add to the taste and textures. This is a family favorite in my house. Great for overnight company as it feeds alot. Serve with sliced avocado, sour cream or salsa on the side.

1 lb Jimmy Dean sausage (1 roll)
12 eggs, beaten
10 3/4 ounces condensed cream of potato soup, undiluted
1/2 cup fresh cilantro, to taste rough chop
1 small onion, diced
1 (7 ounce) can diced green chilies
2 cups frozen southern style potatoes
3/4 cup 2% low-fat milk
1/4-1/2 teaspoon garlic pepper seasoning, to taste
1 tablespoon green chili salsa
2 tablespoons salsa
2 cups shredded Mexican blend cheese
1 dash smoked paprika (about 1 tsp)

Steps:

  • Preheat oven 375' F.
  • In a skillet, cook sausage over medium heat until no longer pink; drain on paper towel.
  • Mix quiche ingredients in large bowl, add sausage and stir to combine.
  • Pour into a 9 x 13 baking dish sprayed with non-stick cooking spray.
  • Top with Mexican/Fiesta cheese blend and sprinkle smoked paprika on top.
  • Bake 35-40 minutes until golden and a toothpick inserted near the center come out clean.
  • Let stand 5-10 minutes before serving.

1 8 or 9 inch deep dish pastry crust
1-lb lean ground beef
3 large eggs, beaten
1 cup salsa
2 cups shredded cheese, your choice
1 small onion, finely diced
1 tsp cumin
1/2 tsp garlic powder
1/2 tsp onion powder
salt to taste
sour cream
cilantro, chopped
diced tomatoes
black olives

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  • Brown ground beef in a large skillet. Add onion and cook until they are soft and translucent. Drain beef, stir in spices and cook 2 minutes.
  • Remove from heat and stir in salsa. Add eggs. Fold in cheese and pour mixture into pastry crust. Bake 20 to 25 minutes until crust is golden brown. Remove from oven and let stand 15 minutes. Cut into 6 or 8 wedges and top each wedge with a dollop of sour cream, cilantro, tomatoes, and black olives.
