CLASSIC RANCH DRESSING
The original dressing served in the 1950s at Hidden Valley Ranch, a guest ranch near Santa Barbara, Calif., was made mostly from dry herbs and aromatics. To recreate that taste, this recipe is made with garlic powder instead of garlic, dried parsley instead of fresh, and so on. It makes enough seasoning mix for about 4 cups dressing; you can mix it, store it, then add dairy as needed. If you don't like the zip of mustard, try hot sauce or Worcestershire sauce instead - or simply omit for a milder taste. To make a thick dip instead of a pourable dressing, reduce the amount of buttermilk to 1/4 cup.

GRANDMA'S POULTRY DRESSING
Every family seems to have their own favorite dressing recipe that becomes a tradition, and this is ours. It came from Grandma, who passed it down to my mother. Now our children have carried it into their kitchens. This is truly a good old-fashioned recipe. -Norma Howland, Joliet, Illinois

" THIS OLD HOUSE " DRESSING
This dressing was first brought to my attention by my SIL, who found it in a local fund raising/awareness cookbook called Breast of Friend. This cookbook has been researched, tried and put together by volunteers in Foam Lake, Saskatchewan, Canada. The salad I use most frequently is not the one in the cookbook but one I have put together. The dressing gets better as it sits. Prep time does not include the time the dressing sits. NOTE: Do not have to make my lettuce salad, try it on your own favorite lettuce salad. I add 3/4 cup of Salad Crunchy mix found at Nutters, it is a combination of toasted sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, soybeans and sesame seeds.
