HAM AND SWISS LAYERED SALAD

Ham and Swiss Layered Salad image

Layered salads rank among the classics in the potluck hall of fame. In this one, the combination of ham, cheese, egg and bacon is like a deconstructed sandwich, making it hearty enough for a main course. -Stacy Huggins, Valley Center, California

BACON-SWISS TOSSED SALAD

Bacon-Swiss Tossed Salad image

THIS RECIPE came from a cookbook compiled by the women of our church in my hometown of Chico, California. It's pretty and tasty. Best of all, it can be put together a couple of hours before serving. When it's time, a simple toss and it's ready. -Cathee Bethel, Philomath, Oregon

SWISS CHEESE SALAD

The salad complements any main dish and is also good for picnics or potlucks...just take the lettuce along in a plastic bag or container and toss with the cheese and vegetable mixture when you arrive.

LAYER SALAD (WITH SWISS)

Layer Salad (With Swiss) image

Another 7-layer salad, but I couldn't find on Zaar that is just like this old favorite. This one calls for swiss cheese (rather than cheddar), which gives it a really different flavor.

Fun Fact: There are actually several hundred cones of volcanoes in the Mexico area, but Parícutin is the only one known to have erupted. The worst of Parícutin's volcanic activity took place in 1943, with its lava rising to about fifty feet below the crater's rim. The volcano derives its famous name from the village of Parícutin, which now lies buried under its lava. The entire village was relocated to an uninhabited area nearby. Surprisingly, only three deaths have been registered in the entire history of volcanic eruptions of the Parícutin. Major volcanic activity of the Parícutin was witnessed until 1952. Today, the volcanic mountain stands at a height of 424 meters (1,391.08 ft). The hardened lava from Parícutin covers an area of ten square miles, and the volcano sand (fragments of volcano material) covers an area of twenty square miles. The city of Parícutin is located two hundred miles West of Mexico City. Ashes from Parícutin reached distances as far away as Mexico City.
