1 box brownie mix, plus ingredients called for on box
1 1/2 c. halved strawberries
2 1/3 c. semisweet chocolate chips
1 c. heavy cream

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350° and line an 8"-x-8" pan with parchment paper.
  • Make brownie: Prepare brownie batter according to package instructions. Pour batter into prepared pan and bake until a toothpick inserted into the middle comes out with only a few moist crumbs, 25 to 30 minutes. Let cool completely in pan, then top with strawberries.
  • Make ganache: Place chocolate chips in a medium, heatproof bowl and set aside. Heat heavy cream in a small saucepan over medium heat. When bubbles begin to break the surface around the edges of the pan, turn off the heat. Pour the hot cream over chocolate chips. Let sit for 5 minutes, then whisk constantly until the sauce is smooth. Pour over the strawberry layer.
  • Refrigerate brownies until the ganache has set, about 15 minutes. Slice into squares and serve cold.

250 g/ 8.8 oz strawberries
125 g/ 4.4 oz/ ½ cup unsalted butter
150 g/ 5.3 oz dark chocolate (about 60-70 % cocoa)
150 g/ 5.3 oz milk chocolate
4 eggs (medium in Germany, large US)
200 g/ 7 oz/ 1 cup granulated sugar
100 g/ 3.5 oz/ ¾ cup + 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
½ teaspoon baking powder
1 pinch of salt
small handful of chocolate chips (optional)

Steps:

  • Wash and dry the strawberries. Remove the stem. Chop the strawberries into small pieces. Set aside.
  • Preheat the oven to 180 degrees Celsius/ 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Line a baking dish of about 23x23 cm/ 9x9 inches with parchment paper.
  • Chop both kinds of chocolate finely and regularly, cube the butter. Place the chocolate and the butter in a small saucepan. Heat very gently while stirring often. The mixture should never get too hot or come to a boil. If you notice that the mixture might get too hot, remove the saucepan and continue stirring off heat until the chocolate-butter mix is very smooth. Set aside until you prepare the rest of the ingredients, it should cool slightly.
  • Place the eggs, sugar, and the flour mixed with the baking powder and a pinch of salt in a bowl. Mix well.
  • Slowly, start adding the melted chocolate mixture. You can add an extra small handful of chocolate chips to the mixture if you wish.
  • Pour the batter into the prepared dish. Sprinkle the strawberries all over the brownie batter and press them very gently into the batter.
  • Bake for about 25-30 minutes. The baking time depends on your oven and on the strawberries as well. They contain a lot of water and, depending on that, the brownies might need a bit longer to be ready than usual brownies do. When ready they should be set around the edges and still only very lightly jiggly in the middle. If the batter seems too wet still, allow some more minutes and check again.

STRAWBERRY & CHOCOLATE BROWNIES:
1/4 c chocolate (i used left over chocolate candies, otherwise just a break a bar down until you have about ½ cup)
1 Tbsp butter
2 Tbsp canola oil
1/2 c white sugar
1/2 c dark brown sugar
2 eggs
1/4 c strawberry jam (recipe as follows)
1 c flour
1/4 c dark chocolate chips
1/4 c dried cranberries
HOMEMADE STRAWBERRY JAM:
1/2 c fresh or frozen strawberries
3 Tbsp sugar, divided

Steps:

  • 1. In a small saucepan, boil down strawberries and 2 tablespoons of sugar for homemade jam. This will take about 8-10 minutes. Once the fruit has boiled down and thickened remove at once and transfer to a glass bowl. Stir in one more tablespoon of sugar and set aside to cool down completely.
  • 2. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Line an 8-inch glass dish with parchment paper coming up the sides. Butter the parchment paper and set aside.
  • 3. In a small bowl, melt down chocolate and butter. Once melted stir in canola oil and sugars. If the mixture is still hot, let it sit for a few minutes to cool a bit before adding the eggs.
  • 4. Add eggs, stirring after each. Add homemade jam and flour. Fold in chocolate chips and cranberries.
  • 5. Pour batter into lined baking dish and bake for about 25 minutes.
  • 6. Lift brownies out of baking dish immediately and transfer to a wire rack to let cool completely before slicing. If desired, serve with a dollop of whipped cream and a cup of coffee.

1/2 cup margarine
3 tablespoons cocoa
1 cup sugar
3/4 cup flour
1/4 teaspoon salt
2 large eggs
1/2 teaspoon vanilla
hershey chocolate syrup
1 quart strawberry
powdered sugar

Steps:

  • Combine margarine and cocoa in a small saucepan; cook over low heat, stirring frequently until margarine melts.
  • Remove from heat and cool slightly.
  • Combine sugar, flour and salt in a mixing bowl.
  • Add chocolate mixture and beat at medium speed with electric mixer until blended.
  • Add eggs and vanilla, mixing well.
  • Spread into well-greased 9" square baking pan.
  • Bake at 350 degrees for 15 minutes or until wooden toothpick inserted in center comes out clean.
  • Cool 10 minutes on a wire rack.
  • Invert on rack; cool completely.
  • Cut into 8 (2 1/2-3") hearts, using a heart shaped cutter.
  • Spoon 2 Tbsp chocolate sauce onto each of 4 plates; place a heart brownie on each plate.
  • Arrange strawberries over the hearts; top with remaining heart brownies.
  • Sprinkle with powdered sugar.
