BOK CHOY STIR FRY - EASY RESTAURANT STYLE RECIPE

Bok choy stir fry - easy restaurant style recipe image

Bok choy stir fry might be downright simple for some people, especially those who grew up in a typical Cantonese family. However, it is deceptively tricky to recreate this iconic Chinese dish at home to taste like those from the restaurant. This bok choy stir fry recipe will address all the nitty-gritty.

Time 20m

Number Of Ingredients 10

400g bok choy of your choice
5 cloves garlic, coarsely chopped
3 slices ginger
1/2 tsp salt
1 tsp sugar
1/4 tsp ground white pepper
1 tbsp oyster sauce
1 tsp light soy sauce
1/2 tsp sesame oil

Steps:

  • Rinse the baby bok choy with water to remove all the dirt and sand. Drain.
  • Heat some oil in the wok. Saute the coarsely chopped garlic and ginger over low to medium heat until fragrant.
  • Add the bok choy to stir-fry over high heat.
  • Season with salt, sugar, and white pepper.
  • Add some water if it is too dry, 1-2 tbsp at a time,
  • Stir-fry until the bok choy is tender-crisp.
  • Bring all the Ingredients in B to a boil in a small pan to thicken it. Set aside.
  • Drizzle the sauce on the bok choy. Serve.
  • Separate the leaves from the stem.
  • Cut the stem into short sections on a bias.

BOK CHOY STIR FRY

Bok Choy Stir Fry image

This quick and easy recipe for bok choy stir fry goes nicely with any meat. I like to add 1/4 teaspoon chicken soup base (such as Penzey's®) to the hot bok choy. You can substitute 1/4 teaspoon ground ginger for the fresh ginger, if desired.

Stir-Fried Sesame Baby Bok Choy image

In this bok choy recipe, you'll stir fry the vegetables with soy sauce, ginger, and garlic, and drizzle with sesame oil. It's a great side dish.

Provided by Diana Kuan

Yield Serves 4 as part of a multicourse meal

Number Of Ingredients 8

1 pound baby bok choy
1½ tablespoons soy sauce
1 tablespoon Chinese rice wine or dry sherry
½ teaspoon sugar
1 tablespoon peanut or vegetable oil
1 garlic clove, minced
1 (1-inch) piece fresh ginger, peeled and minced
2 teaspoons sesame oil

Steps:

  • Trim and discard the rough bottoms from the baby bok choy. Separate the leaves, rinse, and pat dry.
  • In a small bowl, combine the soy sauce, rice wine, and sugar. Set aside.
  • Heat a wok or large skillet over medium-high heat until a bead of water sizzles and evaporates on contact. Add the peanut oil and swirl to coat the bottom and sides. Add the garlic and ginger and stir-fry until aromatic, 20 to 30 seconds. Add the bok choy and stir-fry for about 2 minutes, until crisp-tender. Add the soy sauce mixture and cook for another 30 seconds. Turn off the heat, and drizzle with sesame oil. Transfer to a serving plate and serve hot.

Provided by Food Network

Time 36m

Yield 4 servings

Number Of Ingredients 6

1/4 cup dried shiitake mushrooms
1 1/2 pounds bok choy, trimmed
1/4 cup peanut oil
3 cloves garlic, minced, optional
1 cup fresh shiitake mushrooms, cleaned, trimmed and sliced
1/2 to 3/4 cup commercial oyster sauce

Steps:

  • Cook, stirring frequently, until stems are crisp-tender, about 4 minutes.
  • Meanwhile, in a small skillet heat remaining 2 tablespoons oil; saute fresh shiitake mushrooms over medium-high heat. Continue cooking until they begin to brown and crisp on edges.
  • Into the large skillet or wok, add bok choy leaves and oyster sauce and toss vegetables gently to combine; continue cooking until greens wilt, about 2 more minutes. Serve immediately, topped with crisp mushrooms.

  • Trim the bottoms of the baby bok choy and rinse thoroughly in cold water to remove any grit that likes to collect down at the base of each bundle. Cut any larger pieces in halves or quarters, if needed. You can leave very small and tender baby bok choy whole, just make sure all of the bok choy is roughly the same size so they cook evenly.
  • Heat a large pan over medium-high heat, then add the oil and swirl to coat the bottom and sides. Add the garlic and stir-fry until fragrant, about 30 seconds, but be sure not to burn.
  • Add the bok choy and stir-fry for 2-4 minutes, until the green leaves are wilted and the stalks are tender-crisp. I find it easiest to use tongs and when working with baby bok choy so I can grab some of the leaves and turn them over or toss them around the pan.
  • Add the soy sauce and season with freshly ground black pepper, then cook for another 30 seconds. Transfer to a serving plate and serve hot.
