Steps:
- Preheat oven to 375°. Cream butter and 1 cup sugar until light and fluffy; beat in egg and vanilla. In another bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda and cream of tartar; gradually beat into creamed mixture., In a small bowl, mix cinnamon and remaining sugar. Shape dough into 1-in. balls; roll in cinnamon sugar. Place 2 in. apart on ungreased baking sheets., Bake until light brown, 10-12 minutes. Remove from pans to wire racks to cool.

- Preheat oven to 375. Beat butter on medium until creamy. Gradually add 2 C sugar, beating well. Add eggs, milk and vanilla beating well. Combine flour, baking powder, and 2 tsp cinnamon gradually add to butter mixture, beating on low until blended. Combine 3 T sugar and 1 1/2 T cinnom in a small bowl. Roll dough into 1 inch balls and roll in sugar mixture. Place on ungreased baking sheets and flatten slightly. Bake at 375 for 11-13 mins or until lightly browned. Cool on baking sheets for 5 mins. Transfer to wire racks and cool completely.
SNICKERDOODLES
My aunt Sis used to work summers as a cook for a California Division of Forestry firefighting crew. These were one of their favorites (and mine!)

Steps:
- Cream shortening, 1-1/2 cups sugar, and eggs.
- Sift flour, cream of tartar, soda and salt together and add to sugar mixture.
- Mix together 2 tbsp sugar and cinnamon.
- Roll dough into balls the size of small walnuts and roll in cinnamon sugar.
- Place two inches apart on an ungreased cookie sheet and bake at 400°F for ten minutes, or until lightly browned.
- Cookies will puff up, then flatten out with crinkled tops.

- Prepare the Muffins: Preheat oven to 350°F. Lightly grease a 24-cup miniature muffin pan with cooking spray. Stir together sour cream, oil, egg, vanilla, and 1/2 cup sugar in a small bowl. Whisk together flour, baking soda, salt, 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon, and 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg in a medium bowl. Whisk sour cream mixture into flour mixture. (Batter will be very thick.) Spoon 1 tablespoon of batter into each prepared muffin cup, keeping batter rounded on top.
- Bake in preheated oven until golden and springy when touched lightly on top, 10 to 12 minutes. Cool in pan 5 minutes. Remove from pan to a wire rack; cool completely, about 15 minutes.
- Prepare the Coating: Place melted butter in a small bowl. Whisk together 1 cup sugar, 1 1/2 teaspoons cinnamon, and 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg in another small bowl.
- Dip 1 Muffin in butter; immediately dredge in sugar mixture, and place on a serving platter. Repeat with remaining Muffins, butter, and sugar mixture.
