I found this simple skillet recipe many years ago on a can label. I made some tweaks, and my family loved it. Because it's so easy to put together, it's a real timesaver for people with super busy schedules. -Maxine Neuhauser, Arcadia, California

1-1/2 pound ground beef
1/2 cup chopped onion
2 cans (8 ounces each) tomato sauce
1 cup water
1 package (7 ounces) macaroni
1/2 cup chopped green pepper
2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
1 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon pepper

Steps:

  • In a large skillet over medium-high heat, cook beef and onion until the meat is no longer pink; drain. Stir in the remaining ingredients; bring to a boil. Reduce heat; simmer, covered, until macaroni is tender, stirring occasionally, 20-25 minutes. Add more water if needed.

This is a really good casserole that my boyfriend makes all the time. It's a cheesey noodle casserole with steak. Very good with a glass of wine. I believe he found it on Cooks.com

3 tablespoons shortening
2 medium onions, sliced
2 cups leftover beef (steak, pot roast, etc.)
1 tablespoon flour
1 (1 lb) can stewed tomatoes
1/2 cup red wine
1/4 cup water
1 (2 ounce) can pimientos, sliced
3/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon oregano leaves
1/4 teaspoon ground pepper
3 cups cooked macaroni
2 cups grated cheddar cheese
parsley sprig (optional)

Steps:

  • Heat shortening and saute onions until golden.
  • Stir in beef and brown quickly over high heat, turning frequently.
  • Stir in flour, stewed tomatoes, red wine, water, pimentos, salt, oregano leaves, ground pepper.
  • Simmer a few minutes or until slightly thickened.
  • In a 1 1/2 quart casserole dish or 6 individual ramekins layer macaroni, meat mixture, and cheese. Repeat ending with cheese.
  • Bake in preheated 400 degree oven about 10 minutes for ramekins or 15 to 20 for casserole.
  • Garnish with parsley.

2 cups uncooked elbow macaroni
1 lb ground beef
1/2 cup chopped celery
1/2 cup chopped onion
3 tablespoons flour
2 cups milk
1/4 cup soy sauce
1/2 teaspoon basil
2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
10 ounces frozen peas

Steps:

  • Prepare Macaroni according to package directions. Brown ground beef with celery and onion. Sprinkle flour over cooked beef mixture. Stir to blend. Gradually add milk, soy sauce and basil. Bring to boil. Stir in cheese until melted. Combine macaroni, meat mixture and peas. pour into casserole dish. Bake at 350 degrees for 35 minutes.

This is a macaroni and ground beef casserole recipe, and it makes a great-tasting dinner for any night of the week.

8 ounces macaroni
2 tablespoons olive oil
1 large onion, chopped
1/2 green bell pepper, chopped
1 rib celery, chopped
1 1/2 pounds ground beef
3 cloves garlic, minced
1 (32 ounce) jar prepared spaghetti sauce (or your favorite)
3 tablespoons tomato paste
Salt, to taste
Pepper, to taste
2 cups shredded Cheddar cheese

Steps:

  • Gather the ingredients. Preheat the oven to 350 F.
  • Fill a pasta pot with cold water and set on a burner over medium-high heat. When the pasta water comes to a boil, salt the water , stir and taste. It should taste like the sea. Undersalted? Add more. Oversalted? Pour out some water and add fresh water until you get the right balance.
  • While the water is coming to a boil, heat a large skillet over medium heat. Add the olive oil, onion, bell pepper, and celery. Season with a pinch of salt and pepper and cook, stirring, for about 3 to 4 minutes, until tender.
  • Add tomato paste and stir to incorporate into the vegetables, for 1 to 2 minutes. Add the garlic and cook for 1 minute longer.
  • Add the ground beef and season with another pinch of salt and pepper. Cook, stirring and breaking up the meat, until no longer pink.
  • Add the spaghetti sauce. Bring to a simmer. Simmer for 5 minutes.
  • Pour pasta into boiling salted water gradually while stirring the water. When the water returns to a boil, begin the cooking time as directed by the packaging for al dente doneness. Drain.
  • Add pasta to meat sauce. Stir to blend.
  • Transfer half of the mixture to a 2 1/2- to 3-quart baking dish and top with half of the cheese. Add remaining mixture and top with remaining cheese.
  • Bake for 20 to 25 minutes, until cheese is melted and the mixture is bubbly.
