Our Test Kitchen developed this spicy, salt-free alternative to packaged taco seasoning. Stir it into dips or ground beef, sprinkle on chicken or wherever you want a Southwestern flair.

Time 5m

Yield 3 tablespoons.

Number Of Ingredients 7

4 teaspoons dried minced onion
3 teaspoons chili powder
1 teaspoon cornstarch
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon ground cumin
1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
1/8 teaspoon cayenne pepper

Steps:

  • In a small bowl, combine all ingredients. Store in an airtight container in a cool, dry place for up to 1 year.

AMAZING TACO SEASONING



Amazing Taco Seasoning image

This taco seasoning is just perfect! I make three or four batches at a time and put them in ziploc bags for convenience. Once you try this you'll never buy a packet of taco seasoning at the grocery store again! MSG gives me a headache, so years ago I went on a quest for a great taco seasoning recipe. This is what I found (I just don't remember where). This will season a pound of ground whatever (or a bag of Morningstar Farms Veggie Crumbles- nobody will ever know it's meat-free). Hope you like it!

Number Of Ingredients 10

1 tablespoon flour
1 teaspoon chili powder
1 1/4 teaspoons paprika
3/4 teaspoon salt
3/4 teaspoon dried onion flakes
1/2 teaspoon cumin
1/4 teaspoon cayenne
1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
1/4 teaspoon sugar
1/8 teaspoon ground oregano

Steps:

  • Mix ingredients.
  • Pour over browned, ground meat (or shredded, cooked meat) in a pan over medium heat.
  • I'm sorry I don't have an amount of water to recommend adding to the seasoning. I usually just wing it and then simmer it down if I get too carried away with the water. I think about a half cup?.
  • Simmer until it looks good!
  • Dig it.

¼ teaspoon garlic powder
¼ teaspoon onion powder
¼ teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
¼ teaspoon dried oregano
½ teaspoon paprika
1 ½ teaspoons ground cumin
1 teaspoon sea salt
1 teaspoon black pepper

Steps:

  • In a small bowl, mix together chili powder, garlic powder, onion powder, red pepper flakes, oregano, paprika, cumin, salt and pepper. Store in an airtight container.

This is a combination of several different taco seasoning recipes. I took the best of each recipe to make this one. Hope you like it.

2 tablespoons paprika
2 tablespoons dried onion flakes
4 teaspoons cornstarch
4 teaspoons chili powder
3 tablespoons ground cumin
1 tablespoon garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
1 teaspoon cayenne pepper
1 1/2 teaspoons dried oregano
1/2 teaspoon coriander

Steps:

  • Combine together in a container with a tight fitting lid.
  • Use 3 to 4 Tablespoons of mix and 1/4 cup of water per pound of meat.

REALLY GOOD TACO SEASONING



Really Good Taco Seasoning image

I got this recipe from a magazine (don't know which kind) while waiting for a haircut. It's just like the name suggests. I think this is more flavorful than storebought seasoning. It also has less salt. Use it on chicken, ground beef, or taco meat. The original recipe needed some spice (I like spicy food), so I added chipotle and cayenne pepper. Yum!

4 teaspoons dried ancho chile powder (you can find this at The Fresh Market)
1 tablespoon onion powder (optional)
2 teaspoons garlic powder
1 tablespoon ground cumin
2 teaspoons paprika
2 teaspoons oregano
1 teaspoon sugar
1/2 teaspoon kosher salt, plus a pinch
1/8 teaspoon dried chipotle powder
1 dash cayenne pepper

Steps:

  • Combine all ingredients in a bowl.
  • Place in an airtight container or a spice jar, and label.
  • Use in place of regular taco seasoning.
  • (I typically add about 2 T for each pound of ground beef or chopped chicken).
