Make your own spice mix using storecupboard staples. Use in fajitas instead of a ready-made spice mix, or rub onto meats and vegetables for an extra dose of flavour in other meals

Number Of Ingredients 6

½ tbsp hot chilli powder
2 tbsp sweet smoked paprika
1 tbsp ground cumin
1 tbsp garlic powder
½ tbsp ground coriander
1 heaped tbsp dried oregano

Steps:

  • Put all the ingredients in a bowl and mix to combine. Tip into a small jar or container and store in a dark, cool place. Use as you wish, adding 1 tsp at a time to a dish according to taste.

You can make this ahead and refrigerate it or cook it right away. I referenced recipe #28011 because I tend to go CRAZY when I season things off the cuff, thank you Kathy. Her version looks good too. I used this to make recipe #9683, which is a major hit in my house, thanks Charishma.

1/2 cup mild vegetarian refried beans
2 teaspoons chili powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon paprika
1 vegetable bouillon cube
1/2 teaspoon onion powder
1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
1/4 teaspoon cumin
2 teaspoons brown sugar

Steps:

  • Combine all ingredients and mix thoroughly.
  • Refridgerate until ready to use.
  • Combine mix with 1 cup boiling water, pour over fajita fixins and reduce heat. Cook until mix thickens as a sauce.

  • Stir cornstarch, chili powder, salt, paprika, sugar, onion powder, garlic powder, cayenne pepper, and cumin together in a small bowl.
