Wake up to an irresistibly delicious breakfast that's super quick and easy to whip up using a few basic ingredients you likely already have in your kitchen. This French toast recipe soaks thick slices of bread in a mixture of milk, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and an egg before tossing each slice in a frying pan. Fluffy and tender on the inside and perfectly golden-brown on the outside, making French toast is one of our favorite - and most indulgent! - breakfast dishes. You can use any bread you have left over from the week to make this breakfast treat, but we especially love the density of sourdough, challah and brioche French toast. 1 tsp McCormick® Pure Vanilla Extract
1/2 tsp McCormick® Cinnamon, Ground
1/4 cup milk
4 slices bread

Steps:

  • To make this easy French toast recipe: Beat egg, vanilla and cinnamon in shallow dish with wire whisk. Stir in milk.
  • Dip bread in egg mixture, turning to coat both sides evenly.
  • Cook bread slices on lightly greased nonstick griddle or skillet on medium heat until browned on both sides. Serve with Easy Spiced Syrup (recipe follows), if desired. Voila, easy French toast.
  • Easy Spiced Syrup: Add 1 teaspoon McCormick® Pure Vanilla Extract and 1/4 teaspoon McCormick® Ground Cinnamon to 1 cup pancake syrup; stir well to mix. Serve warm, if desired.

This is the first thing I ever actually "cooked" for my fiance. It's quick and easy, and you can substitute different ingredients for the toppings for a totally different meal every time!

16 fluid ounces heavy whipping cream
4 eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 teaspoon cinnamon sugar
1 loaf Texas toast thick bread, cut in half diagonally
butter or cooking spray, as needed
10 ounces seedless raspberry jam
8 ounces orange juice
8 ounces cream cheese (the whipped variety is easiest to use)
8 ounces pineapple chunks

Steps:

  • Mix whipping cream, eggs, vanilla, and cinnamon sugar in a large mixing bowl.
  • Dip bread in egg mixture.
  • Cook until golden brown in skillet coated with melted butter or cooking spray (I like to add more butter in between each batch).
  • Meanwhile, mix jam and juice in a small saucepan and simmer until slightly thick and syrupy.
  • Blend cream cheese and fruit in blender or food processor until smooth. If you are not using whipped cream cheese, you may want to warm it slightly so it will mix better.
  • Top toast slices with syrup and/or cream cheese mixture. The syrup serves best from a jar with a spout, like you might use for a homemade salad dressing. A leftover syrup bottle would also be good.
  • Variations: Substitute other flavors of jam and/or juice, or a different fruit in the cream cheese mix. A small amount of nutmeg is also good in the batter.

Eggy bread, pain perdu or French toast - this classic breakfast dish has plenty of names and just as many options for toppings. We like it with fresh berries

2 large eggs
80ml whole milk
40ml double cream
1 tsp vanilla extract
½ tsp cinnamon
4 thick slices brioche
2 tbsp vegetable oil
2 tbsp butter
icing sugar and fresh berries, to serve (optional)

Steps:

  • Whisk together the eggs, milk, cream, vanilla and cinnamon. Lay the brioche slices in a single layer in a shallow dish and pour the egg mixture over them. Allow to soak for 2-3 mins, then carefully turn over and soak for 2 mins more.
  • Heat 1 tbsp of the vegetable oil and butter in a non-stick frying pan over a medium heat until foaming. Carefully lift 2 slices of the soaked brioche out of the dish and add to the frying pan. Fry for 3 mins on each side, until golden and crisp, then place on a wire rack over a baking tray in a warm oven while you repeat with the remaining slices.
  • Serve dusted in icing sugar and scattered with fresh berries, if you like.
