  • Fighting free radicals. Quercetin has antioxidant properties. Antioxidants help protect cells against oxidative damage. Oxidative damage occurs when an excess of free radicals in the body overwhelms the body’s antioxidant defenses.
  • Reducing inflammation. Inflammation is the body’s natural response to stress and injuries and usually helps the body heal. However, chronic inflammation can harm the body and contribute to specific health conditions.
  • Reducing the risk of cancer. Research shows that a diet high in flavonoid-rich fruit and vegetables can lower the risk of certain cancers and slow cancer cell growth.
  • Benefitting neurological health. Quercetin may reduce the risk of neurodegenerative diseases, such as Alzheimer’s or Parkinson’s disease. Oxidative stress contributes to the development of neurodegenerative diseases.
  • Relieving allergy symptoms. Additional findings from Pharmacognosy Review suggest that quercetin might be an effective antihistamine, as it restricts histamine from being released from cells.
  • Antibacterial and antiviral effects. Quercetin has antibacterial and antiviral properties. Lab tests show that quercetin can inhibit the growth of many bacteria, including.
  • Reducing the risk of heart disease. Diet plays an essential role in reducing the risk of cardiovascular diseases, such as heart disease and strokes. Because fruit and vegetables contain flavonoids, eating more may help reduce the risk of these diseases.
  • Lowering high blood pressure. According to a 2019 analysis, taking quercetin supplements could be an effective way to reduce blood pressure. Further research shows that people who were overweight and took a quercetin supplement of 150 milligrams (mg) per day had lower levels of harmful cholesterol in their blood and reduced systolic blood pressure.

TOP 10 HOLISTIC REMEDIES FOR YOUR CHILD'S ALLERGIES - HEALTHY KIDS ...

From healthykidshappykids.com

  • Clean up your child’s diet! Ensure that your child’s diet is rich in anti-oxidants and anti-inflammatory foods. Try to have your child “eat a rainbow” of fruits and vegetables every day.
  • Eat foods that are rich in Quercetin. Quercetin is a “natural anti-histamine” with powerful anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. Quercetin is found in many foods, such as raw onions, apples (especially the skins!)
  • Avoid foods that are rich in histamines or that cause histamine release. Unfortunately, chocolate, wine, and strawberries top this list! Other foods that can cause histamine release or are high in histamines include avocados, bananas, dairy, eggs, oranges, peaches, pineapples, raspberries, spinach, and tomatoes.
  • Avoid foods that may cross-react with pollens you are sensitive to. This is known as Oral Allergy Syndrome – you know that itchy mouth you get after eating cantaloupe – it could be due to your ragweed allergy!
  • Eat local honey! Local honey has been shown to reduce allergy symptoms. Local honey contains pollens from all the local plants, flowers, trees, and grasses that your child is allergic to.
  • Irrigate your nose to remove allergens daily, if not more frequently. This can be done with sinus rinses, like a neti pot, Nasopure, or Neilmed sinus rinse, or saline sprays like my favorite – Xlear nasal spray.
  • Take evidence-based supplements for allergy relief! Quercetin. As mentioned above, Quercetin is a powerful natural “anti-histamine” or “mast cell stabilizer.”
  • Use homeopathic medicines to provide immediate relief from those annoying allergy symptoms. Homeopathic medicines are my first go-to for any type of ailment.
  • Acupressure for allergy relief. Acupuncture is a powerful option for both prevention and treatment of allergies. Acupressure can be used at home, on you or your child, along with various essential oils that can help keep allergy symptoms at bay.
  • Use essential oils. Essential oils can be diffused or massaged into specific acupressure points. Some essential oils that are particularly helpful for allergies are chamomile, eucalyptus, lemon, lavender, and peppermint.
