FRIED MUSHROOMS WITH DIPPING SAUCE
Mushrooms are one of my favorites. I had this dish as an appetizer at a restaurant and couldn't believe how simple, delicious, and easy to make it was. I used the same concept as Shake'n Bake® to make this dish, but instead of baking, I fried them. It can either be served as an appetizer or even side dish and whenever I make it for my friends, they can't seem to get enough!

Steps:
- Combine bread crumbs, Parmesan cheese, garlic powder, parsley, and salt in a zip-top bag.
- Beat egg in a large bowl. Add mushrooms and toss until well coated. Place one mushroom in the bag, seal, and shake to coat. Repeat with remaining mushrooms.
- Heat oil in a deep-fryer or large saucepan to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C).
- Deep-fry mushrooms until golden brown, about 5 minutes. Remove to a paper towel lined plate to cool and drain.
- Crush garlic cloves into tartar sauce and mix well. Place into a small dish and serve alongside mushrooms for dipping.

DEEP FRIED MUSHROOMS
Button mushrooms are battered and fried in oil for an irresistible snack. These are great for watching sports.

Steps:
- In a medium bowl, stir together the flour and garlic salt. Mix in egg and water until smooth.
- Heat the oil in a large deep skillet over medium-high heat. Test to see if oil is hot by frying a drop of batter. If it sizzles and floats to the top, the oil is ready.
- Dip mushrooms into the batter and then place in the hot oil. Fry a few at a time so they are not crowded, until golden brown, 3 to 5 minutes. Remove from oil with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.

Steps:
- Clean the mushrooms by wiping them with a damp cloth.
- Remove the stems, cutting them into very tiny pieces, then gently heating them in a non-stick pan for about two minutes.
- Remove the pieces from the pan.
- Grease a pan with the butter (or use a non-stick frypan).
- Place the (stemless) mushrooms in the pan so each becomes a small'cup'.
- Divide the mushroom pieces evenly between the'cups'.
- Add a pinch of paprike and a dash of lemon juice to each'cup'.
- Heat in the frypan until the mushrooms are cooked (but not broken up).
SOUTHERN STYLE FRIED MUSHROOMS
This is a Southern twist to an old favorite. The batter is made with red wine which adds an unexpected kick. It is a flavorful, crisp shell that highlights the mild flavor of the mushroom.

- Heat oil in a deep-fryer or large saucepan to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
- Whisk the wine, water, flour, parsley, garlic, salt, and pepper together in a bowl until well combined and no lumps are visible. Dip each mushroom individually into the mixture to coat. Carefully put the coated mushrooms into the hot oil, keeping the mushrooms from touching and sticking together while cooking. Cook until golden brown, 5 to 6 minutes. Remove from oil and drain on a plate lined with paper towels. Sprinkle with the Parmesan cheese to serve.

I grew up eating these fried mushrooms and they always bring up great memories of growing up in Zimbabwe. Here is my mom's recipe, it makes a great snack!

- Mix flour, cornstarch, baking powder, and garlic salt together in a large bowl. Add water and mix until batter is smooth.
- Dip mushrooms into the batter and coat evenly. Allow excess batter to drip off. Roll mushrooms in bread crumbs until thoroughly coated.
- Heat oil in a deep-fryer or large saucepan to 365 degrees F (185 degrees C).
- Deep-fry mushrooms in batches until golden brown. Drain on paper towels.

- Preheat the air fryer to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C).
- Beat eggs in a bowl. Combine flour, all bread crumbs, kosher salt, onion powder, garlic powder, pepper, paprika, and seafood seasoning in a separate bowl.
- Dip mushrooms first in eggs, then in seasoned flour. Dip back into the eggs and into the seasoned flour again. Place on a plate.
