NATURAL FRUIT TREE BUG REPELLENT

Natural Fruit Tree Bug Repellent image

This is a very simple and easy solution to keeping your fruit bug-free. It is an old concoction from my MIL that has done wonders for our apple trees!

Time 3m

Yield 1 solution, 1 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 4

3/4 cup water
1 cup white vinegar
1 cup sugar
2 banana peel

Steps:

  • Combine all ingredients in an empty gallon-sized jug with the top cut off.
  • Hang one solution in each of your fruit bearing trees - works at its best if you begin the treatments before the trees blossom.
  • Continue to use the treatment until the end of the fruit bearing season, replacing as often as neccesary.
  • (rain water will dilute the solution, and lots of bug will too - check it every few days).

NATURAL BUG EXTERMINATOR FOR FRUIT TREES

Natural Bug Exterminator for Fruit Trees image

Insects and their larvae can do damage to your fruit tree, from eating the foliage to spoiling the fruit. Fortunately, you don't have to resort to harsh, harmful chemicals to protect your fruit trees from nasty critters like moths and fruit flies. The original recipe came from Tielle Webb, on E How.com

Provided by Jo Zimny

Categories     Other Non-Edibles

Time 30m

Number Of Ingredients 7

1 gallon plastic jug
3/4 cup(s) water
1 cup(s) white vinegar
1 cup(s) white sugar
2 - banana peels
- twine or sturdy cord
- craft knife or similar cutting tool

Steps:

  • 1. Slice off the top quarter of the plastic jug using the craft knife or scissors. Punch 4 holes near each corner or in four even spots round the jug so that you will be able to hang the jug with the twine or cord.
  • 2. Make sure the sugar and vinegar are well combined. Slice the banana peels into thin strips and place them in the jug with the vinegar mixture.
  • 3. Pour the water into the jug and stir until thoroughly combined. Cut two lengths of twine and thread it through the holes in the plastic jug in a criss cross formation. Hang the jug from a sturdy branch of your fruit tree.
  • 4. Bugs will be attracted to the scent and meet with their end in the vinegar mixture.
  • 5. Tips and Warnings: Replace the repellent when you notice multiple bugs in it, or if you have had recent rains, as the rain will dilute the mixture.

8 NATURAL & HOMEMADE INSECTICIDES: SAVE YOUR GARDEN
8-natural-homemade-insecticides-save-your-garden image

From treehugger.com
  • Vegetable Oil Spray. A homemade insecticide made from vegetable oil mixed with a mild soap (such as Dr. Bronner's castile soap) can have a devastating effect on certain troublesome insects, such as aphids, mites, thrips, etc.
  • Soap Spray. A very similar homemade pesticide to the oil spray is a soap spray, which is also effective for controlling mites, aphids, whiteflies, beetles, and other hungry little insects.
  • Neem Oil Spray. An oil extracted from the seeds of the neem tree is a powerful natural insecticide, capable of disrupting the life cycle of insects at all stages (adult, larvae, and egg), making it a great resource for the organic gardener.
  • Diatomaceous Earth. This natural substance with a somewhat unwieldy name is made from a sedimentary rock created by fossilized algae (diatoms), and which is a rather abundant resource (diatomaceous earth is said to make up 26 percent of the earth's crust by weight).
  • Garlic Spray. Garlic is well-known for its pungent aroma, which is delectable to some and yet repellent to others, and it is this strong scent that comes into play when used as a natural insecticide.
