This easy homemade Apple Crumble is our favorite dessert for apple season! With it's sweet, caramelized apple filling and crumbly topping, this simple, comforting dessert is most definitely a crowd pleaser! Serve warm and bubbling from the oven with a scoop of vanilla ice cream for a memorable, easy dessert!

1 cup all purpose flour
3/4 cup brown sugar (light or dark)
1 teaspoon baking powder
½ teaspoon salt
½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
8 tablespoons unsalted butter (melted)
2 ½ pounds Granny Smith apples (peeled, cored, and sliced or diced into bite sized pieces (about 6 to 7 cups))
½ cup granulated sugar (or brown sugar)
1 tablespoon lemon juice
2 tablespoons corn starch (or all purpose flour)
½ teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 375°F. Lightly spray an 8 or 9-inch baking dish with nonstick cooking spray and set aside.

This is a moist version of what my mother called Apple Crisp. Delicious with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. Be sure to use an apple that holds its shape during baking like a Braeburn, Jonathan or Northern Spy.

3/4 cup whole wheat flour
1 1/4 cups regular rolled oats
1/2 cup packed brown sugar
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup butter, melted
2 teaspoons vanilla extract, divided
1/2 cup apple cider
1/4 cup granulated sugar
1 1/2 teaspoons cornstarch
1 dash salt
10 cups sliced peeled baking apples
cooking spray

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 375°F.
  • Combine flour, oats, brown sugar, cinnamon and 1/2 teaspoon salt in a small bowl.
  • Add butter and 1 teaspoon vanilla; stir with a fork until moist and crumbly.
  • Combine 1 teaspoon vanilla, cider, granulated sugar, cornstarch, and dash of salt in a large bowl; stir with a whisk until sugar dissolves and mixture is smooth.
  • Add apples, tossing to coat.
  • Spoon apple mixture into a 13 x 9-inch baking dish coated with cooking spray.
  • Sprinkle with oat mixture.
  • Cover with foil and bake at 375°F for 30 minutes.
  • Uncover and bake 30 minutes longer or until browned and bubbly.

My Favorit Apple Crumble image

From my childhood, I remember as a kid Grandpa or mom making this in the fall and how good it was warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.

5 -6 granny smith apples
1/2 cup flour
3/4 cup packed brown sugar
3/4 cup quick oats
3/4 cup butter
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
1/8 cup packed brown sugar
1/8 teaspoon cinnamon
1/8 teaspoon nutmeg

Steps:

  • peel, core, and slice apples.
  • place sliced apples in a mixing bowl and mix with brown sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg for apples.
  • grease a 13x9 casserole with some of the butter.
  • place sliced apples in buttered casserole dish.
  • In mixing bowl mix flour, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and butter together to form a course crumble.
  • stir in oats and pour over sliced apples.
  • Bake at 350 for 35 minutes or until golden brown and delicious.
  • For an added treat serve warm with a scoop of ice cream or a drizzle of caramel syrup.
