This simple, old-fashioned milk cake tastes so good it will surprise you! As I remember my mom's delicious meals, this dessert was always the perfect ending. Mom always used "a dash of this and dab of that" to come up with what we thought was "the best"! -Rosemary Pryor, Pasadena, Maryland

4 large eggs, room temperature
2 cups sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2-1/4 cups all-purpose flour
2-1/4 teaspoons baking powder
1-1/4 cups 2% milk
10 tablespoons butter, cubed

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350°. In a large bowl, beat eggs on high speed for 5 minutes or until thick and lemon-colored. Gradually add sugar, beating until mixture is light and fluffy. Beat in vanilla. Combine flour and baking powder; gradually add to batter beating on low speed until smooth. , In a small saucepan, heat milk and butter just until butter is melted. Gradually add to batter; beat just until combined. , Pour into a greased 13x9-in. baking pan. Bake until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean, 30-35 minutes. Cool on a wire rack.

1 cup milk
½ cup butter
2 cups white sugar
4 eggs
2 tablespoons baking powder
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 325 degrees F (165 degrees C). Grease and flour a 9 inch Bundt pan. Sift together the flour and baking powder. Set aside.
  • In a saucepan heat milk and butter until butter is melted. Remove from heat and set aside.
  • In a large bowl, cream together the sugar and eggs until light and lemon colored. Stir in the vanilla. Beat in the flour mixture and the milk. Mix thoroughly and pour into prepared 9 inch Bundt pan.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 45 to 50 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cake comes out clean. Cool 10 minutes in the pan, then turn out onto a wire rack and cool completely.
