FRIED CABBAGE

Fried Cabbage image

When I was young, my family grew our own cabbages. It was fun to put them to use in the kitchen, just as I did with this comforting side. With potatoes, deviled eggs and cornbread, fried cabbage tastes like home. -Bernice Morris, Marshfield, Missouri

Provided by Mary Bostow

Categories     Side Dish

1 large onion, diced
1 Teaspoon white sugar

Steps:

  • Place the 6 slices of bacon into a large frying pan over medium heat. Fry the bacon until it's fully cooked through. Remove the cooked bacon from the frying pan , reserving the bacon grease in the pan. When the bacon has cooled, crumble it and set it to the side. Add the shredded cabbage , diced onion and sugar to the pan with the bacon grease. Cook the cabbage and onions in the pan, turning the cabbage with a spatula until it wilts down and becomes soft. Continue cooking if you like until it browns slightly. Add the crumbled bacon to the pan and mix it in by folding it into the cabbage with a spatula. Salt and pepper the cabbage to taste before serving.

KENTUCKY FRIED CABBAGE

Kentucky Fried Cabbage image

I love KFC Original Recipe Chicken and all the fixings, but I ran out of the fixings one day and decided to make a cabbage stir fry using the Original Recipe Chicken to flavor the cabbage I had on hand and it came out great and it stretches out to make a meal for the whole family using just one piece of chicken. The flavor goes along way in this recipe and you can actually flavor a whole cabbage with just one piece of the Colonel Sanders Chicken. Make some buttermilk biscuits and some mashed potatoes and you have a wonderful homemade version of the Meal with all the fixings just different

Provided by Rhonda E! @TwoForks4U

Categories     Chicken

Number Of Ingredients 3

1/2 medium cabbage, shredded
1 medium kentucky fried chicken thigh cut into pieces or shredded
1 - fresh serrano pepper for topping

Steps:

  • Add shredded cabbage to a hot skillet with a dab of oil or butter or use just water and cook over medium heat until stir-fried and crispy or soft. Reduce heat and cover while cooking and you prepare the chicken.
  • Prepare the chicken so it looks like this.
  • Add the shredded piece of Colonel Sanders Kentucky Fried Chicken and stir-fry until hot. *Tip I like to cook the cabbage until it gets a little brown or burnt on the edges for flavor.
  • Top with a sliced serrano pepper and serve with a side of mashed potatoes & gravy and a homemade buttermilk biscuit. Enjoy!

KENTUCKY COLESLAW

Kentucky Coleslaw image

We love going to Kentucky Fried Chicken. Although we enjoy the chicken, we actually go for the coleslaw. We buy several pints at a time. I make several versions of cole slaw but we sometime just want this. I tried for several years before getting this recipe right. I think I have figured it out now.If you are in a hurry get a bag of the preshredded slaw mix. It is not quite as good as grating it yourself though. -Donna Gribbins, Shelbyville, Kentucky
