Categories     Medium/ Easy

Time 1h30m

Number Of Ingredients 25

3/4 cup warm water
1 tbsp active dry yeast
1/2 tbsp honey
1 1/2 tbsp olive oil + more to oil baking pan & work surface
2 cups plus 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
3/4 tsp salt 1/4 cup cornmeal for baking
1 1/2 cup store-bought marinara (whatever brand or flavor you like)
1 garlic clove (minced)
1/4 tsp oregano (optional)
my favorite pizza, hands down:
Mozzarella cheese (grated)
Marinated artichokes (Quartered)
Black olives or Kalamata olives (sliced)
Baby tomatoes (halved)
Red onion (halved and thinly sliced)
drizzle of EVOO
Feta sprinkled for garnish after pizza is baked
Mozzarella cheese (grated)
Ham (or pepperoni)
Sliced black olives
Mushrooms (sliced,)
Red onion (halved and thinly sliced)
Tomato (sliced)
Bell pepper (thinly sliced or diced)
Grated Parmesan Cheese (optional)

Steps:

  • (this dough can also be made in a bread maker):
  • Put warm water in a large bowl, add the yeast and let stand for about 7 minutes for the yeast to activate. Don't use hot water or you will ruin the yeast.
  • Whisk in honey and olive oil. Add flour, then the salt and knead until well-combined (use a dough hook on speed 2 if using a mixer). The dough should be sticky.
  • Cover with plastic wrap and leave in a warm place until doubled in volume (45 min to 1 hr at room temp or 25-30 min in a warm 100˚F oven).
  • Combine all sauce ingredients in a small sauce pan.
  • Simmer over medium/low heat until it is reduced by about a third. It needs to thicken or the pizza will be too juicy. If you need to cool sauce to room temp faster, transfer sauce to a bowl and place in a bath of ice water.
  • Generously sprinkle baking pans with cornmeal; this keeps the crust crisper and prevents sticking to the pan. You can also oil pans if you don't have cornmeal.
  • Grease a clean work surface and your hands with olive oil. Transfer dough to oiled surface and cut into three even pieces. Form each piece into an 8" round pizza crust using your hands and transfer to baking pans lined with cornmeal.
  • Spread 1/3 pizza sauce on each pizza leaving a 1/2" border of dough all the way around. Add plenty of mozzarella cheese and any of your favorite toppings; this is where it gets really fun! (See list of toppings above for supreme pizza or Greek Pizza).
  • Bake pizzas at 415 degrees F for 15 minutes or until the crust is crisp and toppings are cooked. Cheese will be melted and turn golden in a few spots.
  • (Tip for the Greek Pizza: once the toppings are on, drizzle with extra virgin olive oil. After the pizza comes out of the oven, sprinkle with crumbled feta cheese. It's so good!)

MINI PIZZA RECIPE FOR KIDS

Mini Pizza Recipe for Kids image

A pizza recipe for kids that adults will love too? Now that's a winning weeknight dinner! Make these mini pizzas and let everyone in the family customize them with their favorite toppings.

Provided by Melissa Rose

Categories     Main Course

Time 41m

Number Of Ingredients 9

2.25 teaspoons dry active yeast
1 cup water
1 teaspoon granulated sugar
1 teaspoon salt
1 tablespoon olive oil
2 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
Pizza sauce
Shredded cheese
Pepperoni, sausage, ham, pineapple, olives, peppers, and any other toppings you like

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 425ºF. Line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
  • Combine the yeast, water, and sugar in a large mixing bowl. Stir, then let sit for 10 minutes, or until the mixture is creamy and has small bubbles on the top.
  • To the yeast mixture, add the salt, olive oil, and flour. Stir until everything is incorporated and the mixture forms a ball. Turn out onto a lightly floured work surface and knead for a minute or two, or until it feels smooth and elastic.
  • Rub a teaspoon of olive oil all over the dough ball, then cover it with plastic wrap and let it rest in the mixing bowl for 5 minutes.
  • Cut the dough into 8 equal pieces and form them into balls. One at a time, place each ball onto the floured work surface and use a rolling pin or clean hands to roll, pat, or pull the dough into a pizza crust shape.
  • Spread sauce and sprinkle cheese onto the pizzas, then top with desired toppings.
  • Place the pizzas on the prepared baking sheets and bake for about 16 minutes, or until the edges are puffy and golden and the cheese is melted and browned in spots.

INDIVIDUAL PIZZAS - GREAT FOR KIDS

Individual Pizzas - Great for Kids image

My Mom used to make these when I was little - and now, as an adult, I've learned that it's fun to cook these when babysitting the neices, as they can "take orders" and make customized pizzas for others and themselves.

Provided by Traci Coleman @TraciB70

Categories     Beef

Number Of Ingredients 13

1 can(s) refrigerated biscuits
1/2 cup(s) flour
1 jar(s) prepared pizza sauce
- shredded mozzarella cheese
PIZZA INGREDIENTS - HAVE ALL OR ANY OF THESE AVAILABLE
1 pound(s) cooked sausage, drained
1 pound(s) cooked hamburger, drained
1 can(s) mushrooms, drained
1 can(s) sliced black olives, drained
1 package(s) pepperoni
1 package(s) canadian bacon
- cooked bacon, crumbled
- other veggies or meats to suit your preferences

Steps:

  • Note: On the pizza toppings, when there are children helping, I prepare all the toppings in advance and have them set out in separate bowls to make it easy for them to customize their own pizza to their liking.
  • Roll out biscuits one at a time in flour to form thin round individual pizza crusts. Dust excess flour off and place crust on a cookie sheet. (You can usually fit about 4 of these per cookie sheet.)
  • Add pizza sauce to each pizza. Add whichever toppings you prefer. Top with mozarella cheese.
  • Bake at 375 for about 15 minutes or until cheese is melted and crust edges are sligtly brown.
