HOT DOG PIE
My 12 year old daughter Deidra brought the basic recipe home from an after-school cooking class and I jazzed it up a bit! If you can't find a deep-dish pie crust, use 2 regular ones.

HOT DOG SURPRISE
I first made this one day when I wanted something different then regular hot dogs. I was probably around 9 and didn't know that cooking meat in its own juice makes it fattier, but if you don't care about that it is great. Especially for kids. I have friends who had it when they were younger and still ask me to make it for them when they come over. Tell me what you think!

HOT DOGS & BEANS
I don't know where this recipe comes from or if it's similar to something known by another name but this was always a huge comfort food when I was younger. My mom always served it over boiled potatoes - don't be afraid to mash it all up together!

Steps:
- In a medium size pot, cook onion in hot oil until soft, but not brown.
- Pour in liquid from green beans (not the beans yet). Add the flour one tbsp at a time until the mixture thickens, but is still liquid.
- Add about 3 tbsp of the tomato paste and let cook for a few minutes, stirring to mix well.
- Add the beans and hot dogs. Stir well, cover and simmer over medium heat for about 10 minutes. Stir periodically and season with salt and pepper to taste.
- Depending on the consistency, you can add some more tomato paste while it's cooking. However, this should be fairly thick, not too runny (although that's personal preference, I suppose =).
- Serve over boiled potatoes and mash it all together really well!

PIE A LA ITALIANA (AKA: HOT DOG PIE)
My mother made this for me when I was a kid and it's just great. She's had this recipe forever and still makes it today. If you like hot dogs, then you're gonna love this! : ) We serve it with hot corn or string beans on the side. You may also use seasoned ground beef instead of hot dogs, if you wish.
