SOUTHERN BOLOGNA BURGERS



Southern Bologna Burgers image

I slather the bologna with Ross' Pool Room sauce and serve it on buns topped with onion and pimento cheese. Yeah, that's a Southern bologna burger right there!

Number Of Ingredients 9

8 slices bologna (thick-cut )
Ross' Pool Room Bologna sauce
8 hamburger buns
2 cups sharp Cheddar cheese (shredded )
2 cups Colby cheese (shredded )
2 4 ounce pimento peppers (diced, drained)
1 cup mayonnaise
kosher salt (to taste)
freshly ground black pepper (to taste)

Steps:

  • Make a 1" cut in the bologna from and edge towards the center.
  • Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat or fire up a grill for direct cooking.
  • Fry or grill the bologna, brushing with the sauce as it cooks. You want to get a light char on he bologna.
  • Toast the buns if desired.
  • Assemble the burgers by placing the bologna on the bun bottoms. Add the pimento cheese and bun top and serve.
  • Combine all ingredients.

Here in Central Ohio we have several restaurants famous for their fried bologna sandwiches. Following is my favorite recipe. Use candied sweet pickles if available

1 slice bologna, approx 1/4 to 1/2 inch thick
1 slice of raw sweet onion
1 slice jalapeno pepper cheese
sweet pickle

Steps:

  • Fry bologna until lightly browned; cover with a slice of hot pepper cheese and heat until melted. Serve on a toasted bun with the raw onion and candied pickle slices. This is a hillbilly cheeseburger extraordinare!

This is great. They serve it at the factory where I work every now and then. I hear that some people call bologna "North Carolina Steak". This is a great burger!

1 hamburger bun (toasted or grilled)
1/2 green pepper (sliced thin)
1/2 small onion (sliced thin)
2 tablespoons margarine (or oil)
salt and pepper (or seasonings of choice)
1 slice bologna (thick)
1 tablespoon mustard
1 slice cheese (optional)

Steps:

  • Sauté green pepper and onion in butter with seasonings of choice.
  • Remove to a plate.
  • Fry bologna in the greased pan to brown on both sides.
  • Add cheese to top if you want it.
  • Put mustard on prepared bun.
  • Add bologna.
  • Top with green peppers and onions.

My dad is not a chef but he is the master of two things- first, a southern-style biscuit and second, this fried bologna sandwich! There is nothing healthy or wholesome here just good, ol' fashioned comfort food!

1 slice bologna, thick slice (thin sliced just isn't the same)
2 slices white bread
1/4 cup barbecue sauce (use your favorite)
1 dash Tabasco sauce
1 teaspoon oil, for frying

Steps:

  • Heat oil over med-high heat in frying pan.
  • Add bologna and fry on both sides.
  • Add barbecue sauce and heat until warmed through.
  • Put bologna (with barbecue sauce) on slice of white bread.
  • Add dash of tabasco sauce to sandwich. Top with other slice of bread and enjoy!

2 slices white bread, buttered on one side
2 slices bologna
1 slice American cheese
1 slice provolone cheese

Steps:

  • Place one slice of buttered bread, butter-side down, in a skillet on medium heat. Lay American cheese, bologna and provolone cheese, and top with the remaining bread slice, butter-side up. Cook covered until lightly browned. Flip and cook covered on other side until lightly browned.
