Easy Herbed Green Beans image

An assortment of herbs adds a refreshing burst of flavor to this easy green bean dish. You can serve it in moments, and it goes so well with just about any main course. -Ann Bassett of Nashville, Tennessee

1 small onion, chopped
2 teaspoons butter
1 package (16 ounces) frozen cut green beans, thawed
1/2 teaspoon garlic salt
1/2 teaspoon dried basil
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon dried oregano
1/4 teaspoon dried marjoram

Steps:

  • In a large nonstick skillet coated with cooking spray, cook onion in butter over medium heat for 2 minutes. Stir in green beans and seasonings. Cook and stir 6-8 minutes longer or until beans are tender.

1/4 cup dried breadcrumbs, divided
2 teaspoons dried basil
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
1/2 teaspoon dried thyme
1 teaspoon dried oregano
2 teaspoons parsley
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 cup parmesan cheese, freshly grated
1/2 cup vegetable oil
2 lbs fresh green beans (or 2 14-oz cans of drained green beans)

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
  • If using fresh beans, rinse them & cut them into 3"-to'4" pieces, before steaming them for about 15 minutes, or until they are only slightly crisp. Set beans aside.
  • In a large bowl whisk together breadcrumbs (I use crumbs from winter wheat or cracked wheat bread), basil, salt, pepper, thyme, oregano, parsley, garlic powder & Parmesan cheese.
  • Add vegetable oil to crumb mixture & stir well, before setting aside 2 tablespoons of the crumb mixture for topping the casserole.
  • In an ovenproof dish, combine green beans & crumb mixture, then sprinkle with reserved crumb mixture.
  • Bake about 30 minutes or until top is golden & crispy.

  • Melt 2 tablespoons butter in a skillet over medium-high heat. Add 8 ounces trimmed green beans and 4 carrots (cut into sticks); season with salt and pepper. Add 1/2 cup chicken broth; reduce the heat to medium, cover and simmer until tender, 6 minutes. Add 1/4 cup chopped chives, 1 tablespoon chopped tarragon, 2 teaspoons white wine vinegar and 1 teaspoon sugar. Cook 3 more minutes.

2 (14 ounce) cans green beans, drained

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  • Combine seasonings, bread crumbs, and cheese; mix well.
  • Add oil and mix well.
  • Reserve 2 tablespoons of the bread crumb mixture for top of casserole.
  • Combine the remaining bread crumb mixture and the drained green beans.
  • Put into a oven proof casserole or baking dish.
  • Sprinkle with the 2 tablespoons of bread crumb mixture.
  • Bake 30 minutes.
