SAUSAGE-STUFFED FRENCH LOAF



Sausage-Stuffed French Loaf image

When my family first tried this sandwich loaf, they suggested I include it as part of our annual New Year's Day celebration. It tastes great with homemade soup.

Number Of Ingredients 13

1 loaf (1 pound) French bread
1/2 pound ground beef
1/2 pound bulk pork sausage
1 medium onion, chopped
1 cup shredded part-skim mozzarella cheese
1 large egg, beaten
1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley
1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
1/4 teaspoon pepper
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/8 teaspoon fennel seed
2 tablespoons butter
1 garlic clove, minced

Steps:

  • Cut a thin slice off the top of the bread. Hollow out bottom half, leaving a 1/4-in. shell. In a food processor or blender, process bread crumbs until coarse; set aside 1 cup. (Discard remaining crumbs or save for another use.) , In a skillet, brown beef, sausage and onion; drain. Stir in reserved crumbs, cheese, egg, parsley, mustard, pepper, salt and fennel; mix well. Spoon into bread shell; replace bred top. Place on a large sheet of heavy-duty foil. , In a small saucepan, melt butter; add garlic and cook for 1 minute. Brush over tops and sides of loaf. Seal the foil. , Bake at 400° for 20 minutes or until cheese is melted.

This is a great for a party or potluck get together's for the whole family. It is so simple to make and watch it disappear before your eyes.. Enjoy !!!!

1 tsp garlic and herb seasoning ( i use mrs.dash garlic & herbs )
1 pkg ( 8 oz ) cream cheese, softened
10 plain or spicy sausage patties
1/2 c diced red peppers
1/2 c green peppers, chopped
2 green onions, chopped
2 Tbsp jalapeno peppers,minced
2 pkg french baguettes
1 8 oz. pkg. shredded cheddar cheese
salt and pepper to taste

Steps:

  • 1. Preheat the oven to 350*
  • 2. Cook sausage,drain & crumbled. Add the peppers, onions to sausage & saute 5-7 mins.Stir in cream cheese, Cheddar cheese,garlic seasoning,salt,pepper.
  • 3. Cut bread in 1/2 lenghtwise and scoop out some of the bread and set aside and use for something else.
  • 4. Fill the hollowed out loaves with the sausage -cheese mix, and wrap each loaf with foil.Place on a cookie sheet and Bake for 45-50 mins. Let cool about 5-10 mins. before opening, then remove the foil and slice into bite sizes pieces.

I got this recipe out of a cookbook and tweaked it a little. This is great for parties and you can serve the filling alone in a crock pot with chips or with toasted french bread slices if you don't want to serve as sandwiches.

Number Of Ingredients 8

2 loaves French baguettes or 2 loaves Italian bread
1 lb bulk breakfast sausage
1 cup chopped green bell pepper
1 cup chopped green onion
2 chopped jalapenos
8 ounces cream cheese
8 ounces sour cream
2 cups shredded cheddar cheese

Steps:

  • Heat oven to 350.
  • Cut very tops off the loaves. Save tops and hollow out the bread,leaving about 1/2 inch border.
  • Brown sausage.
  • Add bell pepper, green onions and jalpenos. Cook until softened.
  • Add cream cheese and let melt.
  • Add sour cream and cheddar, stir over low heat until combined.
  • Divide mix between the two bread bowls, replace tops.
  • Wrap in foil.
  • Bake at 350 for 20 minutes or until bread is crunchy.
  • Let rest for 5 minutes before slicing into individual sandwiches.Serve warm.
