1/4 cup butter or 1/4 cup hard margarine
1/4 cup oil (I use canola)

Steps:

  • Melt all ingredients together till smooth and blended. This can be done over low heat in a saucepan, in the microwave or double boiler.
  • Spoon over ice cream.
  • Leftovers may be refrigerated and re-warmed as needed.

6 ounces chocolate chips
4 tablespoons butter
1/4 cup corn oil

Steps:

  • Combine the chocolate chips and butter in the top of a double boiler over simmering, not boiling, water. Stir constantly until the chocolate is melted and combined with the butter. When melted, stir in the oil. Remove the pan from the heat and carefully remove the top of the double boiler. Let cool to room temperature. Pour over ice cream. The sauce will harden on contact. Store the sauce at room temperature for up to one week. Remix if needed before serving.

¼ teaspoon salt
1 cup water
½ cup white sugar
1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract

Steps:

  • Mix cocoa powder and salt together in a bowl.
  • Bring water and sugar to a boil in a saucepan, stirring until sugar is dissolved. Stir in cocoa mixture slowly. Reduce heat to medium. Simmer, stirring occasionally, until sauce thickens slightly, about 3 minutes. Remove from heat and stir in vanilla.
  • Pour sauce into a storage container and leave to cool, uncovered, until thickened. Place container on an ice pack for faster cooling. Cover and store in the refrigerator.
