4 slices sandwich bread
8 ounces Gruyere cheese
1 pear, thinly sliced
8 ounces deli ham, thinly sliced
Butter

Steps:

  • Layer 4 slices of sandwich bread with 8 ounces Gruyere or other melting cheese, 1 thinly sliced pear, and 8 ounces thinly sliced deli ham; top each with bread.
  • Heat a large skillet over medium heat. Spread outside of both bread slices with butter. Cook sandwiches in batches, if necessary, until golden and cheese is melted, flipping once, 3 to 5 minutes per side. Cut sandwiches in half and serve hot.

6 slices firm, thinly sliced close-textured bread, such as Pepperidge Farm
3 tablespoons sweet butter, softened
3 thin slices honey-cured ham
1/4 pound sliced Gruyere cheese, white cheddar, or Swiss

Steps:

  • To assemble the sandwiches, butter both sides of each bread slice. Lay ham and cheese on one slice and cover with the another slice. Trim the crusts off the sides.
  • Heat a saute pan over medium-low heat, then fry the sandwiches until the cheese starts to melt and the sandwiches are golden brown, about 3 minutes on each side. You may need to add more butter to the pan.
  • Remove the sandwiches to paper towels to drain, let them cool for 1 minute, then cut into quarters diagonally and serve 3 quarters each per serving.

Inside-Out Grilled Ham and Cheese Sandwich image

You'll never have a traditional grilled ham and cheese sandwich again! The caramelized cheese on the outside makes all the difference!

½ cup shredded extra-sharp Cheddar cheese
¼ cup shredded Swiss cheese
1 tablespoon butter
2 slices white bread
2 thin slices ham

Steps:

  • Mix the shredded cheeses together in a small bowl.
  • Melt butter in the bottom of a fry pan over medium heat. Add one slice of bread. Top the piece of bread with about 1/2 of the cheese mixture and the ham slices. Top with the second piece of bread.
  • Place 1/2 of the remaining cheese on top of the second slice of bread and carefully turn the sandwich over to grill the cheese. Cook about 3 to 4 minutes, or until the cheese on the bottom is slightly crispy. While it is cooking, add the remaining cheese on what is now the top piece of bread.
  • Flip the sandwich and cook another 3 to 4 minutes to crisp the cheese on the second side. Remove to a plate, slice in half, and enjoy!

1 tablespoon whole grain mustard
1/2 teaspoon mayonnaise
1 teaspoon brown sugar
1/2 teaspoon honey
1 pinch cinnamon
1 pinch nutmeg
1 fresh pear, cored, skinned, and thinly sliced
4 ounces thinly shaved ham, sliced
4 slices baby swiss cheese
4 pieces rye bread or 4 pieces whole grain wheat bread
1 tablespoon soft butter

Steps:

  • Combine the first six ingredients and spread onto one side of each of the four slices of bread.
  • To assemble the two sandwiches: On top of 2 slices of bread, with the mustard-mayo combination side up, layer the ingredients as follows: cheese, ham, pear, cheese - and then top with the remaining slices of bread, with the mustard-mayonnaise side down.
  • Next, thinly butter the outsides of both sandwiches.
  • Grill for 2-3 minutes over medium heat, cooking until golden brown. Turn and cook on the other side for another 2-3 minutes.

One day, I was rummaging through my refrigerator for something to make for lunch, and I came up with this delicious sandwich. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do!

2 corn tortillas (6-inch)
2 ounces ham slices
2 kraft 2% american cheese singles
1/4 pear, sliced thin
2 teaspoons maple syrup

Steps:

  • Tear cheese into a few pieces and place 1 slice on each corn tortilla (I spread it out so that the cheese will melt uniformly).
  • Place sliced ham on tortilla and place other tortilla on top (like a grilled cheese sandwich).
  • Slice pear into thin slices.
  • Place sandwich on George Foreman Grill (or you can use a frying pan or grill). If using a frying pan, I suggest you spray each side of the tortilla's with butter spray.
  • Place pear slices on grill.
  • Grill for about 5 minutes, turning pears once.
  • Remove sandwich and place grilled pears inside sandwich.
  • Drizzle maple syrup on pears.
  • Put together sandwich again and enjoy!

2 tablespoons butter, softened
2 thick slices French bread
6 thin slices Brie cheese, or more to taste
12 fresh thyme leaves, or to taste
1 pinch cracked black pepper
6 slices pear (such as Bosc)
salt to taste

Steps:

  • Generously butter one side of each slice of bread.
  • Heat a skillet over medium heat.
  • Place bread slices butter-side down into hot skillet. Arrange Brie cheese slices on top of each piece of bread. Sprinkle thyme and cracked black pepper over the top.
  • Spread pear slices in a single layer over the Brie cheese on one slice of bread and top with a pinch of salt.
  • Flip the slice of bread without pears onto the slice of bread with the pear slices. Continue cooking sandwich until cheese and pear are heated through and cheese is melted, 2 to 3 minutes per side. Transfer to a plate and cut into halves.
