Cornbread Hamburger Pie image

This one-dish skillet supper is a big hit with children. We've added green beans and other vegetables to it and ti always turns out. To speed up prep, use chopped green pepper and onion.

1 pound ground beef
1 medium onion, chopped
1 medium green pepper, chopped
1 can (10-3/4 ounces) condensed tomato soup, undiluted
1/4 cup salsa
2 tablespoons ketchup
1 tablespoon steak sauce, optional
1 package (8-1/2 ounces) cornbread/muffin mix
Minced fresh parsley, optional

Steps:

  • In a 10-in. ovenproof skillet, cook the beef, onion and green pepper over medium heat until meat is no longer pink; drain. Stir in the soup, salsa, ketchup and steak sauce if desired. Meanwhile, prepare cornbread batter according to package directions; let stand for 2 minutes. , Spoon over beef mixture. Bake at 400° for 15 minutes or until lightly browned. Sprinkle with parsley if desired.

Mashed Potatoes* or one 24-ounce package refrigerated mashed potatoes
1.25 pound lean ground beef
0.5 cup chopped onion (1 medium)
0.25 teaspoon salt
Dash black pepper
2.5 cup fresh or frozen cut green beans, thawed
1 10.75 ounce can condensed tomato soup
0.5 cup Cheddar cheese, shredded

Steps:

  • Prepare Mashed Potatoes; set aside. In a large skillet cook meat and onion until meat is brown and onion is tender. Drain off fat. Add the salt and pepper. Stir in fresh or thawed beans and soup; pour into a greased 2-quart rectangular baking dish or casserole.
  • Spoon Mashed Potatoes in mounds on bean mixture (or, if desired, pipe potatoes using a pastry bag and a large star tip). Sprinkle cheese over the potatoes. Bake, uncovered, in a 350 degree F oven for 30 to 35, adding cheese the last 10 minutes, or until mixture is bubbly and cheese begins to brown. Makes 6 servings.

5 potatoes
1 pound ground beef
½ cup chopped onion
1 (16 ounce) can green beans, drained
1 (10.75 ounce) can condensed tomato soup
½ cup warm milk
1 egg, beaten
2 cloves garlic, chopped
¼ teaspoon pepper
¼ teaspoon salt
½ cup shredded Cheddar cheese

Steps:

  • Place potatoes into a large pot and cover with salted water; bring to a boil. Reduce heat to medium-low and simmer until tender, about 20 minutes; drain. Set aside to cool in a large bowl.
  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease a 1 1/2-quart casserole dish.
  • Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Cook and stir ground beef and onion in the hot skillet until the beef is crumbly, evenly browned, and no longer pink, about 10 minutes. Stir green beans and tomato soup into the ground beef mixture; transfer to prepared casserole dish.
  • Mash the cooled potatoes with milk, egg, garlic, pepper, and salt; spoon in mounds over the ground beef mixture. Sprinkle Cheddar cheese over the potatoes.
  • Bake in preheated oven until cheese is melted and edges of dish begin to brown, 25 to 30 minutes.

1/2 cup chopped onion
1/4 cup chopped green pepper, optional
1 can (8 ounces) tomato sauce
1 can (14-1/2 ounces) cut green beans, drained
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon garlic salt
1 tube (8 ounces) refrigerated crescent rolls
1 large egg
2 cups shredded cheddar cheese, divided
Paprika

Steps:

  • In a large skillet, cook beef, onion and green pepper if desired over medium heat until meat is no longer pink; drain. Stir in the tomato sauce, beans, salt and garlic salt. Simmer for 8 minutes or until heated through. , Meanwhile, separate crescent dough into eight triangles; place in an ungreased 9-in. pie plate with points toward the center. Press onto the bottom and up the sides to form a crust; seal perforations. , In a large bowl, beat egg and 1 cup cheese; spread over crust. Stir 1/2 cup cheese into meat mixture; spoon into crust. , Sprinkle with paprika and remaining cheese. Bake, uncovered, at 375° for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown. 3 cups sliced fresh mushrooms
4 tablespoons butter, divided
2-1/2 cups chopped onions
6 cups cut fresh green beans (1-inch pieces)
2 teaspoons minced fresh thyme or 3/4 teaspoon dried thyme
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon pepper
1 package (8 ounces) cream cheese, cubed
1/2 cup 2% milk
CRUST:
2-1/2 cups all-purpose flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon dill weed
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 cup cold butter, cubed
1 cup sour cream
1 large egg
1 tablespoon heavy whipping cream

Steps:

  • In a large skillet, saute mushrooms in 1 tablespoon butter until tender; drain and set aside. In the same skillet, saute onions and beans in remaining butter until beans are crisp-tender, 18-20 minutes. Add the thyme, salt, pepper, cream cheese, milk and mushrooms. Cook and stir until the cheese is melted. Remove from the heat; set aside. , In a large bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, dill and salt. Cut in butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Stir in sour cream to form a soft dough. , Divide dough in half. On a well-floured surface, roll out 1 portion to fit a deep-dish 9-in. pie plate; trim pastry even with edge. , Pour green bean mixture into crust. Roll out remaining pastry; make a lattice crust. Trim, seal and flute edge. , In a small bowl, beat the egg and cream; brush over lattice top. Bake at 400° until golden brown, 25-35 minutes.

1 egg
1/4 cup butter, melted
1/3 cup grated Parmesan cheese

1 lb. lean ground beef
1/4 cup chopped onion
1 (15 1/2-oz.) can spicy chili beans, undrained
1 (14 1/2-oz.) can zesty diced tomatoes seasoned with mild green chiles, undrained
4 oz. (1 cup) shredded hot pepper Monterey Jack cheese
4 oz. (1 cup) shredded Cheddar cheese

Steps:

  • Cook spaghetti to desired doneness as directed on package. Drain.
  • Meanwhile, heat oven to 350°F. Spray 9 1/2-inch deep-dish pie pan with nonstick cooking spray.
  • Beat egg in large bowl. Add butter, Parmesan cheese and chili powder; mix well. Add cooked spaghetti; toss to coat. Spoon mixture evenly into sprayed pie pan, pushing mixture slightly up sides of pan to form crust.
  • In large saucepan, cook ground beef and onion over medium heat until beef is thoroughly cooked, stirring frequently. Drain. Add chili beans and tomatoes; cook 2 minutes or until thoroughly heated, stirring occasionally. Add hot pepper Monterey Jack cheese and 1/2 cup of the Cheddar cheese; mix well. Spoon evenly into spaghetti-lined pie pan. Top with remaining 1/2 cup Cheddar cheese.
  • Bake at 350°F. for 20 to 25 minutes or until filling is set and crust is light golden brown. Let stand 10 minutes before serving. Cut into wedges to serve.

4 potatoes
1 pound lean ground beef
1 onion, chopped
2 (10.75 ounce) cans condensed tomato soup
1 (15 ounce) can green beans, drained
1 cup shredded Cheddar cheese

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
  • Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Peel and quarter potatoes, and introduce into boiling water; cook until tender, about 15 minutes. Drain and mash. Set aside.
  • In a large skillet over medium-high heat, cook ground beef and onion until beef is brown. Drain. Stir in tomato soup and green beans. Pour into a 9x13 baking dish. Mound mashed potatoes in a ring around the meat mixture (do not cover meat). Sprinkle potatoes with shredded cheese.

Hamburger, tomato soup, green beans and mashed potatoes--sounds gross! You will be surprised, this is really good!! This is an old recipe, I remember my mom making it over 30 years ago. There is not much you have to add to make it a meal, maybe some buttered bread.

1 lb lean ground beef
1/2 onion, chopped
1 (10 3/4 ounce) can tomato soup
1 (15 ounce) can green beans
5 large potatoes
milk (to mash potatoes)
2 tablespoons butter
salt
pepper

Steps:

  • Cook potatoes until tender, mash with milk, butter, salt and pepper.
  • While potatoes are cooking, brown ground beef and onions, drain off fat.
  • Drain liquid from green beans.
  • Stir tomato soup and green beans in to ground beef.
  • Season to taste with salt and pepper.
  • Turn beef mixture in to a 1 1/2-quart casserole dish.
  • Spoon mashed potatoes over the top.
  • Bake, uncovered, in a 350°F oven for 30 minutes.
  • (Note: you may want to place a sheet of foil under the casserole dish, this tends to "bubble over").
