Grandma's old fashioned coleslaw. Picnic favorite handed down from my grandmother. Perfect with pulled pork, bbq and summer picnics.

1 small head cabbage
1 large carrot or 2 small carrots (peeled)
1 cup mayonnaise
1/3 cup granulated sugar
2 tablespoons vinegar
1 teaspoon lemon juice
1 teaspoon salt
pepper (to taste)

Steps:

  • Using a food processor or box grater shred cabbage and carrots. Place in a large bowl. Set aside.
  • In a medium bowl, combine mayonnaise, sugar, vinegar, lemon juice salt and pepper. Mix until smooth and creamy.
  • Pour over cabbage and carrots. Stir to thoroughly combine. Refrigerate until ready to serve.

4-6 cups cabbage (shredded)
1 large carrot (peeled and shredded)
1 cup whipped salad dressing (like Miracle Whip)
3 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
3 tablespoons granulated sugar
2 tablespoons vegetable oil
1 tablespoon dried minced onion
1 teaspoon celery seed

Steps:

  • In a food processor, shred cabbage and carrot. Place in a medium bowl.
  • Using a glass measuring cup, stir together the salad dressing, apple cider vinegar, granulated sugar, vegetable oil, minced onion, and celery seed. Whisk until well blended.
  • Pour dressing over shredded cabbage mixture. Mix well. Refrigerate for several hours or overnight. Serves 8-10

This was my grandmother's recipe, everything she made was just really good. I decided to post a bunch of her recipes so others can enjoy what she did for me.

1 cup mayonnaise
3 tablespoons sugar
3 tablespoons vinegar
1 1/2 teaspoons salt
3/4 teaspoon dry mustard
1/4 teaspoon celery seed
8 cups cabbage
1 1/2 cups carrots
1 cup green pepper
1/4 cup green onion

Steps:

  • Shred cabbage, carrots, green pepper, and onion set aside in large bowl.
  • Mix mayonnaise, sugar, vinegar, salt, dry mustard, celery seed, pour over shredded cabbage mixture mix well.
  • Cover and refrigerate at least 4 hours before serving.

Steps:

  • Prepare vegetables as directed.

  • Cool.
  • Pour vinegar mixture over vegetables.

My grandma made this at every family function I can remember having, it was always grandma and her big bowl full of coleslaw.

3 tablespoons sugar
3 tablespoons vinegar
1/8 teaspoon salt
3/4 teaspoon dry mustard
1/4 teaspoon celery seed
8 cups of shredded cabbage
1 cup of chopped green pepper
1/4 cup chopped green onion

Steps:

  • In a very large bowl put cabbage, green pepper and onion, set aside.
  • In another bowl mix mayonnaise, sugar, vinegar, salt, dry mustard, and celery seed.
  • Mix well.
  • Add to cabbage mixture and stir until all is covered with mayonnaise mixture.
  • Chill at least 4 hours before serving.

I had to estimate amounts, but this is the coleslaw that my Grandmother always made. It is a very simple recipe but is my favorite! I will admit that the carrots and celery seeds are my addition :-) but I hope that you enjoy this coleslaw as much as I do!

1 cup mayonnaise or 1 cup Miracle Whip

This coleslaw uses prepared mustard. I wasn't sure I would like it as I am not a fan of mustard, but I was pleasantly surprised by the final product. A very tasty variation of a summer favorite!!
