GRANDMA'S TUNA CASSEROLE

Grandma's Tuna Casserole image

I know it sounds crazy, but trust me, this tuna casserole is one of the yummiest things ever. Comfort food madness! Before this, Grandma had never written out this recipe. She doesn't measure anything when cooking this, but it must be tasted throughout.

Time 45m

Yield 8

Number Of Ingredients 12

12 ounces egg noodles
1 (5 ounce) can tuna, drained and flaked, or more to taste
½ cup sour cream
½ cup milk, divided
1 (1 ounce) package dry onion soup mix (such as Lipton®)
1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
¼ teaspoon garlic powder, or to taste
⅛ teaspoon seasoned salt (such as LAWRY'S®), or more to taste
salt and ground black pepper to taste
2 tablespoons butter, cut into small pieces, divided
8 ounces ridged potato chips (such as Ruffles®)
2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese

Steps:

  • Fill a large pot with lightly salted water and bring to a rapid boil. Cook egg noodles at a boil until tender yet firm to the bite, 7 to 9 minutes. Drain.

  • Microwave on high until casserole is hot and cheese is melted, about 10 minutes.

GRAMMA'S RICE TUNA CASSEROLE

Gramma's Rice Tuna Casserole image

This is a recipe I got from my Gramma who's been making this for as long as I can remember, and is one of my family's favourite dishes.

Provided by Miaerowyn

Categories     One Dish Meal

Time 55m

Yield 2 cups, 6 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 8

2 (120 g) cans tuna, drained
2 cups rice, uncooked
2 cups milk
3 tablespoons cornstarch
1 tablespoon pepper
2 tablespoons butter
0.5 (28 ounce) can plum tomatoes
1 medium onion, chopped

Steps:

  • Prepare rice according to package, preheat oven to 375°F.
  • Place tuna and onions in large mixing bowl. Squish plum tomatoes in your hand to yield smaller pieces of them. Once done, mix tuna, onions and tomatoes together.
  • Ten minutes or so before rice is done cooking, place milk in a medium saucepan, add pepper and cornstarch. Whisk until the cornstarch doesn't stick to the bottom of the pan. Add in butter and turn a burner on to med-hi.
  • Continue whisking, or the milk will burn. Once the milk mix gets hot enough to start boiling, it will thicken, turn off burner, and whisk for another 30 seconds.
  • Add milk mixture to the tuna mixture. Stir mix until everything is well incorporated.
  • Add rice to tuna mixture. After everything is well incorporated, pour mix into a 9x13" casserole dish. Place in oven and bake for about 35 minutes. If you want a crispier top, raise temperature to 400°F.
  • Take out of oven and enjoy!

Grandma's Tuna Casserole with Potato Chips and No Noodles image

This is my grandma's recipe. My dad calls it "Toucan Tuna Casserole" because it uses two cans of everything. It is uncommon among tuna casserole recipes because it uses potato chips instead of noodles. Serve with Worcestershire sauce.

GRANDMA SMITH'S TUNA CASSEROLE

Grandma Smith's Tuna Casserole image

This is an easy to make creamy pasta dish, that I usually have all the ingredients for on hand. It is comfort food at it's best! My Grandma Smith raised 10 children on this recipe and my 3 year old loves it, very kid-friendly. I usually use whole wheat pasta for extra fiber and nutrition.

GRANDMA'S HOT TUNA CASSEROLE

Grandma's Hot Tuna Casserole image

One night when I went to visit my dad, my grandma had made this tuna casserole for dinner. I had never had tuna casserole before and after tasting it, I fell in love. My sister and I asked for the recipe so we can make it ourselves at home. When we made it, it came out just as good as hers.

Time 45m

Yield 4 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 9

1 (10 3/4 ounce) can cream of chicken soup
1 (12 ounce) can solid white tuna (StarKist is what we used)
1 cup diced celery
1/4 cup finely chopped onion
1/2 cup Kraft mayonnaise
1/4 teaspoon pepper
4 hard-boiled eggs
1 cup crushed potato chips (Lays work best)
1/2 teaspoon salt (optional)

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 400°F.
  • Biol eggs first (approx. 10 min) - let cool. Peel egg shells and slice.
  • Drain the tuna juice and break up with a fork in a bowl.
  • Mix cream of chicken soup, tuna, celery, onions, mayo, salt and pepper.
  • Add eggs and fold.
  • Place mixture in casserole dish.
  • Sprinkle the top with crushed potato chips.
  • Place in oven and bake for 20 minutes. If you are unsure if it is done, the chips should have a light brown crisp to them. Not all the chips will be brown, but a few should be.
