GIN & TONIC SORBET

Gin & tonic sorbet image

This classic drink makes a refreshing and cheeky summer party dessert

Provided by Sarah Cook

Categories     Dinner, Drink, Supper

Time 20m

Number Of Ingredients 6

400g caster sugar
400ml tonic water
4 tbsp gin
zest and juice 1 lime , plus extra slices to freeze
zest 1 lemon , juice of half, plus extra slices to freeze
1 egg white

Steps:

  • Put the sugar in a pan with 400ml water and warm over a low heat until dissolved. Increase the heat and boil for 1 min. Remove from the heat and allow to cool slightly.
  • Pour the tonic water into a bowl, add the sugar syrup, then chill in the fridge until cold.
  • Once the tonic mix is cold, add the gin, lime and lemon zests and juice, and pour into a container, then freeze until just frozen - this will take about 2 hrs.
  • Remove the just-frozen sorbet from the freezer and break up with a fork. Froth the egg white with a fork, then add both to a food processor and pulse to blitz together - do it quickly so it doesn't actually start to melt. Pour the mix back into your container and freeze until solid. Freeze extra slices of lemons and limes on a tray until solid. Serve the sorbet scooped into glasses or small bowls topped with lemon and lime slices

Categories     Beverages

Time 2m

Yield 1 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 4

2 1/4 ounces good quality gin (I like Tanquerey, 1 1/2 jiggers)
tonic water, good quality
lime wedge
crushed ice

Steps:

  • Fill double old-fashion glass with ice.
  • Wipe lime wedge around the rim of the glass.
  • Gently squeeze lime into glass and leave in glass.
  • Pour gin into the glass.

  • Here is the secret. DO NOT STIR! The essence of both gin and tonic mingle when you sip and it makes for a much fresher drink.

THE BEST GIN AND TONIC

The Best Gin and Tonic image

The best gin and tonic is all in the technique, because the most important ingredient in a G&T is not really the gin, or even the tonic. It's carbonation.

Provided by Maggie Hoffman

Time 3m

Yield Makes 1

Number Of Ingredients 3

1 approximately 7-oz. bottle tonic water (such as Fever Tree or Q), chilled
2 oz. gin, preferably chilled
Grapefruit slice, lime wedge, cucumber slice, or fresh herbs (for serving; optional)

Steps:

  • Fill a highball or Collins glass about two-thirds full with ice, then add about 2 oz. tonic, followed by 2 oz. gin and the remaining tonic. Garnish with a grapefruit slice, lime wedge, cucumber slice, or fresh herbs if desired.
