FRESH MINT LEMONADE

Sweet mint and tart lemons make this Fresh Mint Lemonade the perfect antidote to the heat of a summer day! Make a pitcher, kick back and enjoy this refreshingly simple drink. A true summer favorite!

Number Of Ingredients 5

1/2 cup granulated sugar
4 and ½ cups cold water, divided
20 mint leaves
1 cup fresh squeezed lemon juice
Ice cubes

Steps:

  • Put ¼ cup sugar and ½ cup water in a over medium heat. Let simmer, stirring frequently, until the sugar has dissolved. Remove from the heat and let cool for a few minutes.
  • Muddle the mint leaves in the bottom of a large pitcher.
  • Add the lemon juice to a pitcher along with 4 cups of water.
  • Pour the sugar syrup into the pitcher and mix well.
  • Add plenty of ice cubes and more water, if you find the lemonade too strong.

1/4 cup sugar for simple syrup
Ice cubes
1 2/3 cups freshly squeezed lemon juice
2 tablespoons julienned mint, plus leaves for garnish
1 lemon, sliced 1/4-inch thick, plus more for garnish

Steps:

  • In a small saucepan, combine sugar and 1/4 cup water. Bring mixture to a boil, stirring until the sugar has dissolved. Remove from heat. Let stand until completely cool.
  • In a large pitcher half-filled with ice, add 2 cups water, lemon juice, simple syrup, mint, and lemon slices. Stir to combine. Serve over ice. Garnish with mint leaves and lemon slices.

MEDITERRANEAN-STYLE MINT LEMONADE (LIMONANA)

Mint lemonade, prepared Egyptian-style! Intense with flavor, frothy, and extremely refreshing! You'll love this limonana, but there is a small trick that makes all the difference.

2 cups crushed ice
4 cups water
2 large lemons (or limes), washed, cut into small pieces, and seeds removed
Juice of 1 large lemon
1 bunch fresh mint leaves, stems removed (about 25-40 mint leaves), more for later
1/2 to 3/4 cup sugar, more or less to your liking (you can use cane sugar or part honey, if you like)

Steps:

  • Add all the ingredients to the pitcher of a high-quality blender. Cover and push blend or liquefy (high-speed function), until you achieve the desired drink consistency.
  • Taste and add more sugar or mint leaves, if you like. Blend again.
  • Pour the lemonade into a serving pitcher through a mesh strainer. Add fresh mint leaves to the pitcher. Cover and refrigerate until you are ready to serve.
  • If you like, strain the lemonade again as you pour into serving glasses. Enjoy cold!

Steps:

  • To make simple syrup: Place 2 cups sugar and 2 cups water in a saucepan and bring to a boil. Stir until sugar is dissolved and let cool. Place lemon juice in a large pitcher, add remaining 4 cups water and 1 cup of the simple syrup or more to taste. Stir in mint leaves and refrigerate for 1 hour. Serve over ice.

10 -12 medium lemons, scrubbed well, halved lengthwise, all halves sliced thin
2 cups fresh mint leaves, washed
1 1/4 cups granulated sugar
1 pinch salt (optional)
5 cups cold water

Steps:

  • Mash lemons, mint leaves, and sugar (and salt, if using) in a large, deep bowl with potato masher or back of wooden spoon until lemon slices give up their juice, sugar is dissolved, and juice is thickened to syrup consistency, about 4 minutes.
  • Pour half the lemon slices and syrup through a large sieve over bowl; press on solids with masher or back of wooden spoon to release as much liquid as possible.
  • Discard solids; move liquid to serving pitcher.
  • Repeat process with remaining lemon slices.
  • Stir in water until blended.
  • Chill well and stir to blend before serving, over ice. Enjoy!

1 cup superfine sugar
1 1/2 cups freshly squeezed lemon juice, from 10 to 12 lemons
Fresh mint leaves, for garnish
Sliced lemons, for garnish
Optional flavorings: basil, scraped vanilla beans, freshly grated ginger (see Cook's Note)

Steps:

  • Combine the sugar with 1 cup water in a medium saucepan and bring to a boil. Reduce heat and allow the sugar to dissolve, 3 to 4 minutes. Remove from heat and cool completely.
  • Combine the lemon juice, sugar syrup, and 4 cups cold water in a large pitcher. Refrigerate until well chilled, at least 1 hour. Serve over crushed ice and garnish with mint leaves and sliced lemons.

6 lemons
1/2 inch length fresh rosemary
roughly 5 leaves of fresh mint
1/2 cup sugar
5 cups water
ice (optional)

Steps:

  • First cut and juice the lemons and put it into a pitcher.
  • Rinse the mint and rosemary. Then tear apart the mint and rosemary, allowing the flavor to unleash. Put it in the pitcher with or without strainer.
  • Add the water to the pitcher.
  • Fill a microwavable cup with the sugar and just enough water to cover the top of the sugar and heat in microwave for 1.5 minutes.
  • Finally stir the sugar and water until it all dissolves then pour it into the pitcher and add ice if you like. Stir and enjoy!

1/3 cup chopped fresh ginger
1/3 cup honey
2 cups boiling water
1/3 cup fresh lemon juice
1 1/2 cups (about) cold water
Ice cubes
Fresh mint leaves
Lemon slices

Steps:

  • Combine chopped mint, ginger, and honey in medium bowl. Add boiling water. Let steep 30 minutes. Strain into 4-cup glass measuring cup, pressing on solids to extract liquid. Add lemon juice and enough cold water to measure 4 cups total. (Can be prepared 1 day ahead. Cover and refrigerate.)
  • Fill glasses with ice cubes. Add lemonade. Garnish with mint leaves and lemon slices and serve.
