1 lb lean ground turkey 500 g
1 egg
1/3 cup finely crushed tortilla chips (size of coarse bread crumbs) 75 mL
3 tbsp grated onion 45 mL
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 tbsp chili powder 15 mL
1 tsp lime zest 5 mL
1/2 tsp salt 2 mL
4 bakery-style burger buns, toasted
Tomato Salsa:
2 cups finely chopped tomato 500 mL
1/4 cup finely chopped red onion 60 mL
1/4 cup lime juice 60 mL
2 tbsp finely chopped cilantro 30 mL
1 clove garlic, minced
1/2 tsp salt 2 mL

Steps:

  • To make patties, mix turkey with egg, crushed tortilla chips, onion, garlic, chili powder, lime zest and salt. Divide into 4 portions. Shape each into 1/2-inch (1 cm) thick patties. Cook on preheated grill, at medium-high heat, for 5 to 6 min per side or until cooked through.
  • Make salsa by mixing the tomato, red onion, lime juice, cilantro, garlic and salt.
  • Serve grilled burger patties in toasted buns with the tomato salsa.

1 pound ground beef
4 ounces chorizo sausage, casing removed
2 teaspoons onion powder
1 teaspoon ground cumin, plus more for the rosada sauce
Salt and pepper
1 cup grated aged Cheddar
1 cup queso blanco
1/2 cup mayonnaise
1/4 cup ketchup
1 lime, zested and juiced
6 slider buns, split

Steps:

  • In a medium bowl, mix together the ground beef, chorizo, onion powder, cumin and 2 teaspoons each salt and pepper. Form the mixture into palm-size balls.
  • Heat a griddle or large skillet over medium-high heat. Place the balls on the griddle and smash with a spatula or the back of a spoon. Cook, flipping once, until cooked through. Divide the Cheddar and queso blanco among the burgers and let melt. Remove the burgers to a plate.
  • Meanwhile, combine the mayonnaise, ketchup and lime zest and juice in a bowl; mix to blend. Add cumin, salt and pepper to taste.
  • Toast the slider buns on the griddle. Serve the burgers on the buns, topped with some rosada sauce.

1 cup canned Bush's Black Bean Fiesta
1/3 cup seasoned bread crumbs
1 large egg white
1/2 teaspoon chili powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon pepper
1 pound ground turkey
4 hamburger buns, split
4 lettuce leaves
4 slices tomato
Mayonnaise, optional

Steps:

  • In a large bowl, coarsely mash beans. Stir in the bread crumbs, egg white, chili powder, salt and pepper. Crumble turkey over mixture and mix well. Shape into 4 patties., In a large, greased cast-iron or other heavy skillet, cook patties over medium heat until a thermometer reads 165° and juices run clear, 6-8 minutes on each side. Serve on buns with lettuce and tomato and, if desired, mayonnaise.
