Steps:
- Take a cue from the Australians and make fairy bread for your next party: It has been a popular children's birthday treat Down Under for generations, and we think it'll go over just as well with kids (and adults!) here. To make it, spread softened butter on untoasted white bread and top with sprinkles. Rainbow nonpareils (or "hundreds and thousands," as Aussies say) are classic, but you can also use jimmies or sanding sugar in any color.

FAIRY BREAD
This is a great Aussie kids party favorite, we were all brought up on it. Bread is spread with margarine and topped with colored sprinkles, or if you are in Australia, 100's and 1000's. It's a loved recipe.

- Shape heaping tablespoonfuls of the dough into four leaf clovers.
- Place on a greased cookie sheet at 350*F for about 10 minutes, until fully raised and slightly browned.
- Drizzle a little honey on top while cooling.

- Fill a non-metal cup with 1 cup lukewarm water (temperature of 100 – 110 degrees F – use a thermometer). Sprinkle in yeast and 2 teaspoons sugar, without stirring. Let stand for 10 minutes then stir.
- Meanwhile, scald the milk. Place milk in a heavy-bottomed saucepan over medium high heat. Slowly heat the milk while stirring constantly just until it just starts to come to light boil. Immediately remove it from the heat (do not let it come to a full boil). Let the milk sit for 2 – 4 minutes to cool down slightly.
- Into the bowl of a stand mixer with the whisk attachment, add scalded milk, melted butter, ¾ cup sugar and salt; beat on medium speed. Add softened yeast and beat again on medium speed to combine.
- Gradually add about half of the flour and beat on medium speed to make a thick batter. Add 2 eggs, 2 egg yolks and lemon rind. Beat at medium speed to combine.

- Have fun by using parchment paper or cookie cutters to create stencils for your fairy bread. Make sure to gently press the sprinkles or sanding sugar into the desired shape and shake off any excess before removing the stencil.

- Start by covering slices of white bread in lots and lots of spreadable butter. Be generous and spread the butter right to the edges (this is what the sprinkles will stick to).
- Carefully add 100’s & 1000’s sprinkles on top of the butter. I find it easiest to do this by spooning over the sprinkles using a dessert spoon.
