Fun to make and eat! A great protein-filled nutritious snack for kids. Easy to make; fun for the kids to help. My 5 y/o loves them. This recipe is courtesy of Better Homes and Gardens "Kids Snacks" cookbook, 1985. ***Do not feed honey to anyone under the age of 1 years old, due to the possibility of an allergic reaction.

Ingredients

1/2 cup peanut butter
1 tablespoon honey
1/3 cup non-fat powdered milk
2 tablespoons sesame seeds
2 tablespoons toasted wheat germ
unsweetened cocoa powder, for toothpick coating
76 almonds, sliced thin

Steps:

In a mixing bowl, mix peanut butter and honey.
Stir in dry milk powder, sesame seed and wheat germ; mix well.
Lay wax paper on a cookie sheet.
Using a teaspoon, shape and scoop up 1 tsp of peanut butter mixture into oval shapes, to look like bees.; place on cookie sheet.
Dip a toothpick into cocoa; press gently across bees to make the stripes.
Stick 2 almonds slices into each side, for wings.
Chill in refrigerator for 30 minutes.

The world’s largest bumblebee is the Bombus dahlbomii of South America. Its queens are described as looking like flying mice.
A bumblebee flaps its wings 200 times per second. That’s a similar RPM to some motorcycle engines.
Bees have to eat a ton. Bumblebees have extremely fast metabolisms, so they have to eat almost continuously. “A bumblebee with a full stomach is only ever about 40 minutes from starvation,” as Goulson puts it.
Bumblebee nests are much smaller than those of other species. They have a maximum of 300 to 400 worker bees, compared to the tens of thousands found in a honeybee or wasp nest.
Bee sperm lives for months inside the queen bee. Only the fat queen bee survives winter hibernation, and she’s left to create a colony by herself. Sperm stored up from mating the previous summer survives in her ovaries, ready to fertilize her eggs once she finally finds a nesting place.
Queen bees control the genetics of their offspring. Male bumblebees have only one chromosome, and no father. To produce a son, a queen bee merely has to lay an unfertilized egg.
Bees have complicated family trees. Because bee sisters receive exactly the same genes from their fathers, but only share around 50 percent of genes from their mother’s side, a female bumblebee is 75 percent related to her sisters.
Bumblebees don’t die when they sting. That’s just a thing in honeybees. So yes, a bumblebee can sting you twice. However, male bumblebees don’t have a stinger at all, and female bumblebees aren’t very aggressive, so unless you go barging into their nest, you’re likely safe.
Most of what we know about bumblebee nests comes from an entomologist who died in 1912. Frederick William Lambart Sladen was the first scientist to devote his research completely to bumblebees.

Bumblebees Belong to a Genus of 265 Species. The IUCN SSC Bumblebee Specialist Group recognizes 265 species of bumblebees in the world, but the conservation status of many of them remains unknown.
They Do Not Produce Honey. Honeybees collect honey to survive through the winter, but bumblebees don’t need to prepare for the cold because they die in the fall.
They Can Detect the Nutritional Quality of Pollen. Along with nectar, bumblebees also collect the pollen made by flowers. In 2016, researchers at Penn State found that bumblebees can actually detect the nutritional quality of pollen, an ability that helps them choose the best plant species and optimize their diets.
They Beat Their Wings 200 Times per Second. Bumblebee wings move faster than the human eye can detect, so scientists use high-speed cameras and computer vision techniques to analyze their wingbeats.
They Create a Vibrating Pulse for Pollination. The wingbeat helps create the vibrating buzz that makes bumblebees such great pollinators. Studies on pollination strategies of a critically endangered lily species found that bumblebees made up over 81% of flower visits, but they spent significantly less time on each flower than other bee species, suggesting a faster efficiency as well.
Bumblebees Have Five Eyes. Bees need their complex eye system to navigate and pick up colors, shapes, and UV markings on flowers. For that reason, bumblebees have five eyes, including two main ones with about 6,000 facets and three smaller ones on the top of their heads.
They Have Impostors. Just like a cuckoo bird leaves its eggs in a foreign nest for another bird to raise, species of cuckoo bumblebees sneak into other colonies to lay their eggs.
They Shiver to Keep Warm. Even though bumblebee species are designed to handle a wide range of climates, they still need to raise their internal temperature in order to take flight (this is why you may notice queens or workers on the ground in the colder months in early spring).
The Biggest Bumblebees Live in South America. Bombus dahlbomii, more commonly known as the Patagonian bumblebee or the South American bumblebee, can grow as large as 1.18 inches long.
Male Bumblebees Can’t Sting. Like other bee species, only female queen or worker bumblebees can sting. However, since they are typically less aggressive than honeybees (who have valuable honey to protect), bumblebees will generally only sting if they feel threatened or if something disturbs their hive.
