DR. PEPPER RIBS

Dr. Pepper Ribs image

My son handed me this recipe and wanted me to try it. I don't know where the recipe came from, but I'm glad he sent this my way!

Provided by The Kissing Cook

Time P1DT2h

Yield 4 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 11

2 racks baby back ribs
1 (2 liter) bottle Dr. Pepper cola
1/4 cup salt
1 tablespoon chili powder
1 tablespoon canola oil
1/2 medium onion, minced
1 garlic clove, minced
1/2 cup ketchup
2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
2 tablespoons cider vinegar
1/8 teaspoon cayenne pepper

Steps:

  • Place the ribs in a large baking dish. Pour in Dr. Pepper and cover them, reserving at least 1/2 cup for the sauce. Add he salt and soak the ribs in fridge overnight (or at least 2 hours).
  • Heat the oven to 350°F Remove the ribs from the liquid, dry them, and rub with the chili powder. Place them on a baking dish, add 1 cup of water, and cover tightly with foil. Cook for 2 hours, until the meat nearly falls off the bone.
  • For BBQ Sauce: Heat the oil in saucepan over medium heat. Saute the onion and garlic until they're soft and fragrant and add the ketchup, Worcestershire, vinegar, cayenne and 1/2 cup of Dr. Pepper. Simmer for 15 to 20 minutes, or until the sauce thickens.
  • Fire up the grill, and brush the ribs with sauce. When the grill is hot, cook them bone side down on a cooler part for 10 to 15 minutes. Flip them and cook until lightly charred and smoky.
  • Remove and brush on more sauce.

DR PEPPER BABY BACK RIBS

Dr Pepper Baby Back Ribs image

I have a few recipes for Dr Pepper Ribs, but this is our favorite. I don't know a lot about the recipe's history other than the recipe comes from Texas (where Dr Pepper was created). The sauce is equally good with either baby back ribs or country style ribs, and it can be grilled, too. I hope you enjoy it. There are lots of...

Time 4h30m

Number Of Ingredients 14

4 Tbsp unsalted butter
1 large yellow onion, chopped
4 large garlic cloves, minced
8 oz tomato sauce
6 oz tomato paste
12 oz can of dr pepper soda
1/2 c cider vinegar
1/3 c worcestershire sauce
1/2 c packed brown sugar (light or dark)
2 tsp chili powder
1 tsp white pepper
1 tsp salt
1 tsp mustard powder
2 large racks of baby back ribs

Steps:

  • 1. Melt the butter in a large saucepan. Sauté the onion and garlic in the butter until translucent, about 10 minutes. Add the remaining ingredients (except the ribs), and simmer for 20-30 minutes or until the sauce thickens. Adjust seasonings, if needed.
  • 2. Place ribs on a large baking sheet lined with heavy foil. Brush half the sauce all over the ribs on both sides. Cover with foil, and let marinate in refrigerator 2-8 hours.
  • 3. When you're ready to bake the ribs, preheat oven to 300°F. Place the baking sheet, still covered in foil, into the oven and bake for 2 hours.
  • 4. After 2 hours of baking, remove the foil, brush another generous layer of sauce all over the ribs. Return pan to the oven and continue cooking 30 to 40 minutes.
  • 5. When ribs are fully cooked, remove pan from oven, slice between ribs and serve.

  • Cut each rack of ribs in half, so you will now have 4 half racks. This will make them easier to grill later. Pat the ribs dry, and rub evenly with the dry rub mixture. Place the ribs meat side UP in a large roasting pan with rack. (I’ll link in the notes to the roasting pan I use). Pour the Dr Pepper to the bottom of the roasting pan. Cover the roasting pan with foil so the Dr Pepper can steam and infuse the ribs. Roast for 4 hours.
  • When the ribs are done roasting, they will be very tender and will want to fall of the bone. Using 2 tongs, gently remove each half rack from the roasting pan and transfer to a large plate. You can either tent them with foil and refrigerate to grill at a later time, or finish them on the grill right away. Discard the cooking liquid left in the roasting pan.
