Cut batting. Measure the entire width of the headboard, including the outer edges of each post (the batting will go around the posts, too). Next, measure the height of the headboard; double it.
Drape fabric. Drape batting over tension rod and posts, allowing it to fall evenly over the back side of the headboard. Whipstitch the front and back sides along the left and right edges to hold in place.
Create a slipcover. To create the slipcover, measure the width of the headboard, again to the outside edges of each post. Add 2 inches to this measurement to allow for 1/2-inch-wide side seams and room for the batting.
Check the fit. Place right sides of the fabric pieces together; pin along top edge and the two side edges using 1/2-inch seam allowances. Fit the pinned cover over the headboard and tension rod to check the fit.
Sew and attach. Sew a double 1/2-inch hem along the bottoms of the front and back pieces. Turn right sides out. Fit the cover over the headboard and batting.

Cut Foam to Length of Wood. Lay the foam on the floor and place the wood over it. Trace the outline of the board onto the foam, then cut the foam with a utility knife.
Repeat Step 2 with the Batting. Repeat Step 2 with the batting, adding a few inches on each side so that you can pull the batting over the edge of the plywood when you secure it.
Glue Foam and Plywood. Adhere the foam to the plywood with spray adhesive. Let dry.
Center Batting on Foam. Center the batting on top of the foam, then flip the headboard over so that the batting is on the floor. Attach to the backside of the plywood with the staple gun, pulling it tautly as you go.
Affix Fabric to Headboard. Flip the headboard over again so that it's right-side up. If your fabric has any wrinkles, iron it, then center it over the headboard, using clamps to hold it in place, if necessary.
Apply Nailhead Trim. Flip the headboard right-side up again. Line up the nailhead trim in a straight line, starting from the bottom of one side and working your way up.
Secure Headboard to Wall. Attach your headboard to the wall by screwing two D-rings to the back of the plywood and hanging them from screws or hooks in your wall.
