DEVIL'S FLOAT



Devil's Float image

This is a quick dessert that any chocolate lover will flip over. It is also low in sugar and low in fat. Any variety of nut can be substituted for the pecans. Great with ice cream.

1 cup all-purpose flour
¾ cup white sugar
2 tablespoons cocoa powder
2 teaspoons baking powder
¼ teaspoon salt
½ cup milk
2 tablespoons melted butter
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
½ cup chopped pecans
½ cup white sugar
½ cup brown sugar
2 tablespoons cocoa powder
1 cup hot water

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
  • Sift flour, 3/4 cup white sugar, 2 tablespoons cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt together in a bowl. Stir milk, butter, and vanilla extract into flour mixture until batter is just combined; fold in pecans. Pour batter into an 8x8-inch baking dish.
  • Mix 1/2 cup white sugar, brown sugar, and 2 tablespoons cocoa powder together in a bowl; sprinkle over batter. Pour hot water over batter and sugar layer.
  • Bake in the preheated oven until top cake layer is floating on bottom pudding layer, about 40 minutes.

This is a much asked for family favorite. Chocolate cake 'floating' on a sea of pudding! Sure to be a favorite of yours, too!

1 cup white sugar
2 cups water
½ cup shortening
½ cup white sugar
1 cup all-purpose flour
2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
1 teaspoon baking powder
½ teaspoon salt
½ cup milk
1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Steps:

  • Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Place 1 cup of sugar and 2 cups water into a saucepan and bring to a boil.
  • In a medium bowl, cream together the shortening and 1/2 cup sugar until smooth. Combine the flour, cocoa, baking powder and salt; stir into the creamed mixture alternately with the milk so the batter does not become too stiff. Stir in vanilla.
  • Pour the sugar water into a 2 quart casserole dish. Drop the chocolate mixture by spoonfuls into the sugar syrup to make dumplings.
  • Bake for 45 to 50 minutes in the preheated oven. Use a slotted spoon to remove dumplings to plates, spoon syrup over and serve.

1 envelope powdered cocoa mix
chocolate-chip mint ice cream

Steps:

  • In a 2-cup measure microwave water, uncovered, on 100% power for 1 1/2 to 2 minutes or till steaming hot.
  • Stir in cocoa mix.
  • Pour into a mug.
  • Top hot chocolate with a small scoop of ice cream.
  • Serve immediately.

A rich chocolaty desert sure to satisfy any sweet tooth. Very easy to make and good hot or cold. Serve by itself or with cream/milk or ice cream. My husband made this for me and I'm hooked.... as are our kids!!!

1 cup flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon salt
2/3 cup sugar
2 tablespoons cocoa
1/2 cup milk
2 tablespoons butter, melted
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 cup brown sugar, packed
4 tablespoons cocoa
1 1/2 cups boiling water

Steps:

  • In medium mixing bowl sift flour
  • Mix in the baking powder as well as the salt and sugar and 1 tablespoons cocoa.
  • Sift again.
  • Add the milk and the butter and vanilla.
  • Mix until smooth.
  • Turn into greased casserole dish.
  • In small mixing bowl combine the brown sugar and cocoa.
  • Sprinkle this mixture over batter in pan.
  • Pour the boiling water over top of mix.
  • Bake in 350 oven for 30-40 minutes.
  • Serve warm by itself or with milk or cream or ice cream. Also good served cold.
