  • Get Yourself Some Apple Cider Vinegar. Vinegar is a versatile cleaning agent. It’s non-toxic and will both clean and disinfect the coffee machine. The acid kills bacteria and mold and prevent more from growing.
  • Start With The Outside. Whether you opt to wipe the outside with a solution of 1 part apple cider vinegar and 1 part water, or just wipe it down with a wet cloth, the outside should be first.
  • Mix Solution. Pour a mixture of 2 parts water to 1 part vinegar into the water reserve.
  • Brew. At this point, you need to run the machine as if you were brewing coffee. If you have the ability to pause it halfway then do that as well. Let the vinegar sit for approximately 20-30 minutes.
  • Don’t Forget the Carafe. While the machine has the vinegar mixture in it be sure to clean the carafe. It should be rinsed after every use but this is the chance to really give it a good scrubbing.
  • Finish the Cycle. When time is up, complete the cycle. The apple cider vinegar is descaling the insides and prepping your machine to be at its best.
  • Rinse. Once finished, rinse with water. It will still have a vinegar smell but that’s normal at this point.
  • Repeat. If it’s been a while since you’ve last cleaned your coffee maker then you may need to repeat the vinegar cycle. One brew may not have been sufficient enough to clean everything out.
  • Cycle Through With Water. Once you’re satisfied that the inside is cleaned you need to flush with clean water. Add water to the reserve and brew. It may be necessary to run 2 or 3 cycles of water to flush out the vinegar.
  • Enjoy Fresh Coffee. Now it should be free from bacteria and ready to keep up with all your caffeine needs. Brew up a cup and enjoy! Let’s Talk About Water.

HOW TO CLEAN YOUR COFFEE MAKER WITH APPLE CIDER VINEGAR

From coffeenutty.com
  • Wipe Down Your Coffee Maker. Before cleaning the inside of your coffee maker, give the outside a wipe down. Cleaning the outside of your coffee maker will ensure that dust and dirt on its surface don’t make their way into its filter.
  • Empty the Inside of Your Coffee Maker. Make sure that you’ve emptied the inside of your coffee maker. This includes removing the filter and ensuring that the water reservoir / water chamber doesn’t have any liquid in it.
  • Fill Your Coffee Maker With the Vinegar Solution. To make an apple cider and water cleaning solution, mix one part apple cider vinegar with equal parts water (clean).
  • Run Your Coffee Machine for Half a Brew Cycle. Close your coffee maker and then run your coffee machine for a half brewing cycle. This allows the apple cider vinegar solution to heat up and activate the chemicals that break down dirt and deep stains.
  • Run Your Coffee Machine for a Complete Brew Cycle. After an hour, rerun your coffee machine and allow it to run through an entire brew cycle. This cleaning process is the best way to dislodge any stubborn stains or bacteria.
  • Run Two Complete Freshwater Brewing Cycles. For best results, you should run at least two freshwater cycles in your coffee machine after emptying the remaining vinegar solution.
  • Wash the Carafe and Water Filter. To clean your coffee maker’s carafe and water filter, wash them out with hot soapy water. Then, use a clean, dry towel to wipe them down gently.
  • Assemble Your Coffee Maker. Once all the parts of your coffee maker are dry, you can then assemble them back together in your machine. Then, run one more full brew cycle to make sure your coffee machine is completely clean and ready to be used to brew coffee again.
