2 cups celery, sliced thin in 1 inch strips
1/2 cup onion, sliced
1 1/2 lbs lean ground beef
2 tablespoons cornstarch
1 1/2 cups water
1 beef bouillon cube
1/4 cup soy sauce
1/2 teaspoon salt
16 ounces bean sprouts or 4 cups chopped cabbage

Steps:

  • Cook celery, onion and ground beef about 5 minutes until meat begins to brown.
  • Blend cornstarch with water and stir into beef mixture.
  • Add bouillon cube, soy sauce and salt.
  • Cook, stirring constantly, until sauce is thickened and clear.
  • Stir in bean sprouts or cabbage.
  • Cook covered about 3 minutes until cabbage is tender if cabbage is used.
  • If bean sprouts are used, heat thoroughly.
  • Serve over rice.

1 lb lean ground beef
1 onion, chopped
1 (6 ounce) package long grain and wild rice blend
1 3/4 cups water
5 tablespoons soy sauce
2 cups shredded cabbage
1 cup bean sprouts
1 cup carrot, sliced into thin strips
1 cup celery, cut into thin strips
1/2 lb fresh white mushroom, sliced

Steps:

  • In a large skillet brown beef and onion stirring occasionally until crumbly.
  • Drain off fat.
  • Put beef and onion into crock pot.
  • Stir in rice mix including dry seasoning packet, water and 4 TBS of soy sauce.
  • Cover and cook on high setting 2 hours.
  • Stir in vegetables and mushrooms.
  • cover and continue cooking on high about 30 minutes longer or until rice is tender and vegetables are crisp tender.
  • Stir in remaining 1 TBS soy sauce and serve at once.
  • Note: For more pronounce Asian flavor, stir in another tablespoon soy sauce before serving.

This is my mom's chop suey recipe and is one of my favorite meals. Great for a Sunday family dinner.

1 tablespoon vegetable oil
2 lbs beef stew meat
1 white onion
3 stalks celery
8 cups water
1/3 cup soy sauce
1 tablespoon beaded molasses
14 ounces bean sprouts, drained
8 ounces water chestnuts, drained
5 tablespoons cornstarch
1/2 cup water

Steps:

  • Heat oil in large pot over high heat.
  • Brown beef stew meat mixing in cut up onions and celery.
  • Add water, soy sauce and beaded molasses.
  • Simmer for 3 hours.
  • Add bean sprouts and water chestnuts.
  • Mix cornstarch and water and add to chop suey, heat until thickens.
  • Serve over rice.

1 (15 ounce) can diced tomatoes, undrained
2 cups cooked macaroni (about 1 cup uncooked)

Steps:

  • In a non-stick skillet, brown the ground beef with onion and green pepper.
  • Drain; transfer to slow cooker/Crock Pot.
  • Add seasonings, cheese, tomato paste, and tomatoes; stir to combine.
  • Cover and cook on low for 6 to 8 hours.
  • Stir in hot cooked macaroni 10 minutes before serving.
