1/4 head green cabbage, chopped
6 ounces multi-grain spaghetti, cooked and drained
1/2 lb ground turkey
1/2 tablespoon wine or 1/2 tablespoon cream sherry
1 tablespoon chopped scallion
1/2 teaspoon ginger
1 tablespoon sesame oil
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/8 teaspoon pepper
1/2 teaspoon chopped garlic
1/2 cup chicken broth or 1/2 cup chicken stock
1/2 tablespoon soy sauce
1/2 tablespoon cream sherry
2 1/2 tablespoons water
1 tablespoon cornstarch

Steps:

  • Place the turkey into a mixing bowl and add 1/2 tablespoon of wine or cream sherry, salt, pepper, garlic, scallions, ginger, and sesame oil. Mix well, then brown meat mixture until cooked through. Set aside.
  • Add cabbage to pan. Saute for 1-2 minutes, then add stock, soy sauce, and sherry. bring to a boil, cover until cabbage is wilted. Mix cornstarch with water and add to thicken sauce.
  • Add noodles and turkey, season with additional salt and/or soy sauce to taste.

4 cups cabbage (sliced)
1 small onion (chopped)
1/4 cup butter
1 lb wide egg noodles (cooked)
salt and pepper
sour cream (optional)

Steps:

  • Cook Egg Noodles in a salted pot of water.
  • When Noodles are done drain and set aside.
  • In skillet sauté Onions in Butter until transparent.
  • Add Cabbage and sauté around 5 minutes (or until tender).
  • Mix the cooked Noodles into the skillet.
  • Add Salt and Pepper and (optional) Sour Cream.
  • Serve and enjoy.

A dish from the old country. Not quite like the others already on Zaar. Adapted to modern times too w/ a few shortcuts. It still takes forever to cook, but the prep couldn't be simpler now. Grandma always says when you think you've cooked the veggies enough, cook them that much longer again. We often serve this at Jewish holiday meals and at Thanksgiving.

3/4 cup butter (1.5 sticks, original recipe uses 2 sticks)
36 ounces frozen chopped onions (3 12 ounce bags)
40 ounces tri colored coleslaw mix (I use 3 bags of tricolored slaw, which is red and green cabbage with carrots, weight amount is appro)
12 ounces fine egg noodles
pepper

Steps:

  • Slowly saute onions in butter until they are a golden brown.
  • Pepper to taste.
  • Add cabbage to onions in batches as it cooks down.
  • Cook, cook, and cook some more, stirring occasionally until the whole mixture has cooked down and is turning golden brown. This is the step that takes so long.
  • When vegetables are about done, cook the noodles as directed on the package.
  • Mix noodles and vegetables well.
