2 1/2 cups tart red pitted cherries (reserve cherry juice)
1/2 cup sugar
2 tablespoons cornstarch
1/2 teaspoon clove
1/4 cup seeded raisins
sherry wine
red food coloring (optional)

Steps:

  • Use medium heat.
  • In a heavy duty large sauce pan, mix sugar, cornstarch, and cloves and gradually stir in cherry liquid.
  • Cook stirring constantly until mixture thickens.
  • Thin with sherry.
  • Add food coloring if desired.
  • Serve hot over ham slices.

1 can (16 ounces) pitted tart red cherries
1/4 cup sugar
2 tablespoons cornstarch
1 tablespoon butter
1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
Few drops red food coloring, optional
Sponge cake, pound cake or ice cream

Steps:

  • Drain cherries, reserving juice. Set cherries aside. Add enough water to juice to equal 1-1/4 cups. In a saucepan, combine sugar and cornstarch. Stir in juice. Bring to a boil; cook and stir for 2 minutes or until thickened. , Remove from the heat. Stir in the butter, vanilla, cherries and food coloring if desired. Serve warm over cake or ice cream.

1 12-ounce container frozen cranberry juice cocktail, thawed
1 cup water
1 cup (packed) golden brown sugar
1 cinnamon stick, broken in half
1/4 teaspoon ground allspice
1 6-ounce package dried tart cherries*
1 12-ounce bag cranberries

Steps:

  • Bring first 5 ingredients to boil in heavy medium saucepan over medium-high heat, stirring until sugar dissolves. Add cherries; cook 2 minutes. Add cranberries; cook until berries pop, stirring occasionally, about 9 minutes. Transfer to bowl. Cover; chill overnight. (Can be made 1 week ahead. Keep chilled.) Discard cinnamon. Serve cold or at room temperature.

  • Place the milk, butter, brown sugar, egg, salt, cinnamon, yeast and bread flour into the pan of a bread machine in the order recommended by the manufacturer. Select the white bread cycle. About 5 minutes before the end of the mixing process, add the raisins and cherries. If your bread machine has a fruit setting, use that.

1 cup packed brown sugar
3 tablespoons maple syrup
1 teaspoon ground mustard
3 tablespoons cornstarch

1 cup cold water
1 can (15 ounces) pitted dark sweet cherries, undrained
2 tablespoons lemon juice
1 teaspoon almond extract

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 325°. Place ham on a rack in a roasting pan. Using a sharp knife, score surface of ham with 1/4-in.-deep cuts in a diamond pattern. Mix brown sugar, syrup and mustard; rub over ham and press into cuts.
