BUTTER DIPS

Butter Dips image

I like these bread sticks because I can whip them up in a hurry if company drops in unexpectedly (which happens often since my husband is a minister!). Most folks are amazed that a recipe this easy can taste so good!

Provided by Taste of Home

Time 40m

Yield 32 breadsticks.

Number Of Ingredients 9

2-1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 tablespoon sugar
3-1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1-1/2 teaspoons salt
1/2 to 1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese
1 cup whole milk
1/3 cup butter, melted
TOPPINGS:
Sesame seeds, garlic salt, onion salt or celery salt

Steps:

  • In large bowl, combine the flour, sugar, baking powder, salt and cheese; add milk. Stir slowly with fork. When dough clings together, turn onto well-floured surface. On a floured surface, knead gently 10 times. Roll dough into 12x8-in. rectangle., Cut dough in half lengthwise with sharp knife, then into 16 strips. Place butter in a 13x9-in. baking pan. Dip both sides of strips in melted butter. Place 2 rows in pan. Sprinkle with topping of your choice. Bake at 450° for 12-15 minutes. Serve immediately.

Here's what you need: water, sugar, butter, active dry yeast, all-purpose flour, salt, butter, garlic salt

Provided by Matthew Johnson

Categories     Appetizers

Yield 12 servings

Number Of Ingredients 8

1 cup water, warm (105°F/40°C)
2 tablespoons sugar
¼ cup butter, melted
1 teaspoon active dry yeast
3 cups all-purpose flour
1 ½ teaspoons salt, optional
2 tablespoons butter, melted
½ teaspoon garlic salt

Steps:

  • Add the warm water to a large bowl with the melted butter, sugar and yeast. Stir to help the yeast dissolve and let the mixture sit for 5 minutes, or until it becomes foamy on top.
  • Add in the flour and salt (optional) to the yeast mixture. Use a mixing spoon to incorporate the wet and dry ingredients until it comes together into a sticky ball.
  • Cover the dough with a towel and place in a warm part of your kitchen. Let rise for 1½ hours, or until it doubles in size.
  • Remove the risen dough from the bowl and knead on the counter with extra flour until the dough becomes smooth on the surface and no longer sticky.
  • Preheat the oven to 400°F/200°C.
  • With a rolling pin, flatten the dough until it's about a 7x12 inch (18x30 cm) rectangle, and slice into 12 strips. If you don't have a rolling pin, you can cut the dough into 12 portions and roll each into 7 inch (18 cm) logs with your hands.
  • Place the dough on parchment paper-lined baking sheets with cooking spray.
  • Brush melted butter and sprinkle garlic salt on the dough.
  • Bake the breadsticks for 15 minutes or until golden brown.
  • When the breadsticks come out of the oven, serve immediately, or cool and store in the freezer for up to 6 months to eat at a later date.
  • Enjoy!

EASY BUTTER DIPS

Easy Butter Dips image

Who knew homemade breadsticks could be so easy! Made with six ingredients (probably in your kitchen already), these breadsticks are buttery and delicious. You could jazz them up even more by sprinkling some garlic salt or Parmesan cheese. Serve with a side of marinara and these are going to disappear in a snap. They'd be tasty...

Time 25m

Number Of Ingredients 6

1/4 c unsalted butter
1 1/4 c all-purpose flour
2 tsp sugar
2 tsp baking powder
1 tsp salt
2/3 c milk

Steps:

  • 1. Preheat oven to 450 degrees. Melt butter in a 9x9 glass pan right in the oven while it is preheating.
  • 2. Mix all other ingredients together until dough forms.
  • 3. Coat hands and dough with a dusting of flour, and knead a few times.
  • 4. Roll or press out into roughly a 8" square.
  • 5. Cut the square in half.
  • 6. Then cut each half into strips.
  • 7. Lay each strip in the melted butter. Turn each to completely cover with butter.
  • 8. Arrange all the strips in the pan. They should be touching, so that's fine.
  • 9. Bake 15-20 minutes until golden brown. Serve hot!

  • Position a rack in the center and heat the oven to 450°F. Put the butter in a 9-inch-square baking dish and place in the oven to melt, about 5 minutes.
  • While the butter melts, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt in a large bowl. Make a well in the center, pour in the milk, and stir with a fork only until the dry ingredients are moist. The dough will be soft and sticky.
  • Pour the dough onto a lightly floured surface. Gently knead about 10 turns, adding no more flour than is needed to keep it from sticking to your hands. Pat into a long, narrow rectangle that’s about 1/2 inch thick. Cut the dough into 12 equal strips with a pizza cutter or sharp knife dipped in flour.
  • Remove the dish from the oven. Working with one at a time, transfer the strips to the baking dish and turn to coat in butter. Nest the strips snuggly together in rows.
