- In a large saucepan, saute onion in butter until tender. Stir in flour until blended. Gradually stir in milk. Bring to a boil; cook and stir for 2 minutes or until thickened. Reduce heat; stir in cheese sauce until smooth. Remove from heat. , Cook broccoli according to package directions; drain and place in a bowl. Add the cheese sauce mixture, eggs, 1/4 cup cracker crumbs, salt and pepper. , Transfer to a greased 1-1/2-qt. baking dish; sprinkle with remaining cracker crumbs. Place dish in a larger baking pan. Fill pan with hot water to a depth of 1 in. Bake, uncovered, at 350° for 50 minutes or until a thermometer reads 160°.

- Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C).
- Mix flour, bread crumbs, Parmigiano-Reggiano cheese, and five-spice powder together in a bowl. Cut in 1 1/2 tablespoons butter using your fingers until mixture resembles pebbles. Cover and refrigerate until needed.
- Cut the stem off the broccoli and use a spiralizer to cut into ribbons. Cut the head into florets.
- Melt 3 tablespoons butter in a large saucepan over medium heat. Add onion and garlic; saute until translucent, about 4 minutes. Add cornstarch, pepper, and nutmeg; mix well until roux begins to brown, 3 to 4 minutes. Add milk, stirring continuously, and continue to cook until sauce begins to thicken, 3 to 4 minutes more. Mix in 1/4 cup Cheddar cheese. Stir in broccoli until thickened, 2 to 3 minutes. Pour mixture into a baking dish.
- Top mixture with remaining Cheddar cheese. Sprinkle crumble mixture evenly over the top. Reduce the oven temperature to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
- Bake in the preheated oven until the crumble has browned and sauce is bubbling, about 20 minutes.

CHEESY BACON PASTA BAKE WITH BROCCOLI CRUMBLE

- Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Lightly grease a casserole dish.
- Bring a large pot of lightly salted water to a boil. Cook bow-tie pasta at a boil, stirring occasionally, until tender yet firm to the bite, about 12 minutes.
- Meanwhile, place bacon in a large skillet and cook over medium-high heat, turning occasionally, until evenly browned, about 10 minutes. Drain bacon slices on paper towels, reserving bacon grease in the skillet. Let bacon cool enough to handle, about 5 minutes; crumble and set aside. Drain cooked pasta and set aside.
- Heat 2 tablespoons bacon grease in a medium saucepan over medium heat. Saute onion and garlic in the hot grease for 2 to 3 minutes. Add crumbled bacon, heavy cream, and 1 tablespoon butter; continue cooking until sauce becomes thick and creamy, 5 to 7 minutes. Mix in gouda cheese and stir until melted. Season with salt and pepper. Remove from heat and mix pasta into the cream sauce. Pour mixture into the prepared casserole dish.
- Melt remaining 2 tablespoons butter in a medium, microwave-safe bowl in a microwave for 20 seconds. Mix in panko bread crumbs and riced broccoli; stir very well to coat in butter. Spread mixture on top of pasta.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 15 minutes. Remove from the oven.
- Set an oven rack about 6 inches from the heat source and preheat the oven's broiler.
- Continue to bake in the preheated oven until crumble is browned, about 5 minutes more.

- Prepare the broccoli (chop off the florets; then peel the remaining stalk, discard the peel and chop the stalk.)
- Melt 1 tablespoon of the butter in a large frying pan or pot, then stir the broccoli in and cook for a minute. Then remove the broccoli, set aside temporarily. Melt the remaining butter in the pan, stir in the flour, cook for a minute, then slowly pour and stir the milk in and cook until it has thickened. Then stir in the mustard, adjust taste with salt and pepper, and put the broccoli back in. Cover and simmer at low heat for 10 minutes.
- While the broccoli mixture is simmering, butter an ovenproof dish. As well, prepare the crumble topping by mixing together in a bowl the oats, the parsley, the peanuts and the handful of grated cheddar (how big a handful is up to you.)
