Philly Cheesesteak Recipe with Peppers and Onions image

This easy Philly Cheesesteak Recipe is the ultimate game day fare! Tender bites of sirloin, sauteéd peppers and onions, and melted provolone cheese are all cooked up in one skillet and loaded on toasted hoagie rolls.

4 tablespoons vegetable oil (divided (or as needed))
1 sweet yellow onion (halved and thinly sliced (2-inch slices))
1 red bell pepper (thinly sliced)
1 green bell pepper (thinly sliced)
2½ to 3 pounds petite sirloin (thinly sliced sirloin)
1 teaspoon Lawry's Seasoned Salt (or other all-purpose seasoning, divided)
1 teaspoon garlic pepper (divided)
8 hoagie rolls
6 tablespoons softened butter
7 ounces sliced Provolone cheese ((7 1-ounce slices) I used Tillamook Farmstyle Thick Cut)

Steps:

  • Before starting, place beef in the freezer for about 20 to 30 minutes. This will make it easy to slice thinly.
  • Add 2 tablespoons vegetable oil to a large, deep (14-inch) sauté pan and place over MEDIUM-LOW heat. Add onion and bell peppers. Allow to cook, stirring occasionally, until very tender. If they are beginning to brown, turn the heat under the skillet down a bit. While the veggies are cooking, prepare the steak, returning to stir every now and then.
  • Remove steak from freezer and place it on a cutting board. Use a sharp knife to trim edges of excess fat and then slice it as thinly as possible across the grain. Chop the sliced steak into very small pieces. Keep chopping until you can chop no more! You want little ¼-inch-ish pieces. Check on those veggies periodically while you're prepping the beef.
  • When the veggies are tender, transfer them to a dish and return the skillet to the heat. Add additional oil and place over MEDIUM-HIGH heat. Add half of the chopped steak and cook, stirring frequently, for about 4 to 5 minutes, or until no pink remains. Season with ½ teaspoon each seasoned salt and garlic pepper while cooking. Transfer first batch of steak with a slotted spoon to dish with onions and peppers, leaving juice behind in pan. Add additional oil, if needed and repeat with remaining steak and seasoning.
  • Preheat oven to 400 degrees F.
  • Split open the hoagies rolls but do not separate them. Spread them with the softened butter and place them on a baking sheet. Transfer the baking sheet to the oven and bake for 3 to 5 minutes or until lightly golden and toasted.
  • Drain off all of the juices from the pan and return to the stove. Add back all of the steak and the onions and peppers. Place 7 provolone slices over the mixture in a circle and cover the pan. Cook on MEDIUM until cheese melts, about 4 to 5 minutes, then stir and use tongs to transfer to the toasted sandwich rolls.

2 submarine rolls (7 inch), partially split
2 Tbsp. pickled pepper rings

Steps:

  • Cook and stir onions and bell peppers in dressing in medium skillet on medium heat 5 min. or until vegetables are crisp-tender, stirring frequently.
  • Add meat; toss to coat. Cook on medium-low heat 2 min. or until heated through, stirring frequently.
  • Fill rolls with meat mixture; top with pickled peppers.

2 lb beef steak, sliced in thin strips
MARINADE
1/2 c red wine
1/4 c sugar
3 Tbsp soy sauce
2 clove garlic, minced
1 tsp oregano
1 tsp thyme
2 Tbsp italian seasoning
1-2 c water
2 Tbsp olive oil
SANDWICH BEEF JUICE
2 c beef broth
2 clove garlic smashed
1/4 tsp red pepper flakes.
trimed beef fat or 2- slices of bacon
1 bay leaf
1 Tbsp onion powder
1-2 medium onions sliced
1 large bell pepper sliced.
salt and pepper
4-6 medium sub rolls.
your favorite cheese
pickled peppers

Steps:

  • 1. Trim fat from beef steak if any and set aside. Slice beef steak into thin slices. In a large bowl mix together all the marinade ingrediant. Add meat, cover and refrigerate for 1-2 hour.
  • 2. Meanwhile in a small sauce pan over med heat add the beef fat and cook until the fat has rendered. If you did not have fat left over use the bacon. Add garlic, pepper flakes, and bay leaf cook a minut more. Add the beef broth and onion powder. Lower heat and simmer until half is gone. Strain and set aside.
  • 3. In a large skillet, or pan, heat olive oil over med-high heat.Add the peppers and onions, salt and pepper and cook until just about soft. Remove the beef from the marinade. Discard marinade. Add beef to the pan, and cook until the beef is browned. Remove from heat and strain the mixture. Return to pan, add the sandwich beef juice and simmer for 2 minutes.
  • 4. Turn on broiler. Slice rolls and open them face up Place on a baking sheet line with foil,. Top each roll with the beef steak mixture, then your favorite cheese. Place it under the broiler until cheese is melted. Add a little juice to the bare side of the roll and top with the pickled peppers. Serve with fries or chips.

8 onion slices (1/4 inch thick)
1/4 cup olive oil
1/4 cup red wine vinegar
4 teaspoons chopped fresh oregano or 1 teaspoon dried oregano
2 garlic cloves, minced
4 jars (7 ounces each) roasted red peppers, drained
1 loaf (1 pound) French bread
1 cup shredded part-skim mozzarella cheese

Steps:

  • Place onion slices in a 13x9-in. baking pan. In a small bowl, whisk the oil, vinegar, oregano and garlic; brush half over the onions. Set remaining dressing aside. , Bake onions, uncovered, at 375° for 10 minutes or until tender. Add red peppers; bake 10 minutes longer or until heated through. Meanwhile, slice bread in half lengthwise, then cut into fourths. Carefully hollow out bottom of loaf, leaving 1/2-in. shells (discard removed bread or save for another use). , Place bread, cut side up, on a baking sheet. Broil 4 in. from the heat for 1 minute or until toasted. Layer with onions, red peppers and cheese on bottom halves of bread. Drizzle with remaining dressing. Broil 4 in. from the heat for 4 minutes or until cheese is melted. Top with remaining bread.

2 medium green peppers, julienned
1 small onion, sliced
4 garlic cloves, minced, divided
1 tablespoon olive oil
2 cups cooked beef sirloin or round steak (3/4 pound), thinly sliced
1/2 teaspoon salt, optional
1/8 teaspoon pepper
1/4 cup butter, softened
4 French or Italian sandwich rolls, split and toasted

Steps:

  • In a large skillet, saute the green peppers, onion and half of the garlic in oil until vegetables are tender. Add steak, salt if desired and pepper; heat through. , Blend butter and remaining garlic; spread over cut side of rolls. Place steak mixture on bottom halves; replace roll tops.

2 teaspoons vegetable oil
1 small onion, cut into 1/4-inch wedges

1 small garlic clove, crushed

2 kaiser rolls, split
1/4 cup tomatoes, chopped

Steps:

  • Heat oil in large nonstick skillet over medium-high heat.
  • Add onion, jalapeño pepper and garlic; stir-fry 3 to 4 minutes or until lightly browned.
  • Remove from skillet; reserve.

2 tablespoons butter or margarine
1 red onion, sliced, separated into rings
1 tablespoon packed brown sugar
1 tablespoon water
1/4 cup Dijon mustard
1 lb thinly sliced cooked roast beef (from deli)
10 slices (3/4 oz each) provolone cheese

Steps:

  • Heat oven to 350°F. Spray cookie sheet with cooking spray. Place loaf of dough, seam side down, on cookie sheet. With sharp knife, make 4 or 5 diagonal cuts (1/4 inch deep) in top of loaf.
  • Bake 26 to 30 minutes or until loaf is golden brown. Cool completely, about 20 minutes.
  • Meanwhile, in large skillet, melt butter over medium-high heat. Add onions and brown sugar. Cook 10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until onions are tender. Add water. Reduce heat to medium-low; cook 10 to 15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until onions are golden and glazed.
  • Set oven control to broil. Cut loaf in half lengthwise. Spread mustard over cut sides of loaf. Top each half with roast beef, onions and cheese. Place sandwich halves on cookie sheet.
  • Broil with tops about 3 inches from heat 2 to 3 minutes or until cheese is melted and light golden brown. Cut into slices to serve.
