BONNIE'S DEEP FRIED CANDY BARS

BONNIE'S DEEP FRIED CANDY BARS image

This unusual recipe came from the internet by a cook named Elizabeth Deep-fried candy bars are crisp on the outside, and filled with liquified chocolate and caramel on the inside. Decadent and outrageous! Difinitely not health food, but once a year is okay!

Provided by BonniE !

Categories     Chocolate

Number Of Ingredients 9

to make deep-fried candy bars, you will need:
up to 8 full-size candy bars: snickers, milky way, etc.
2 quarts of vegetable oil
1.5 cups flour
1 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp salt
1 cup milk
2 tbsp white vinegar
you will also need a candy/deep fry thermometer

Steps:

  • 1. Freeze Candy Bars Before you fry the candy bars you want them really cold, so unwrap them and place them on a baking sheet and freeze them for at least 3 hours.
  • 2. Prepare the Oil for Frying When you're ready to fry, get the oil ready. Pour it into a heavy-duty pot over medium-high heat and insert your candy thermometer. You want the oil to come to 375 degrees, which takes a while. Keep one eye on the oil while you get the rest of the ingredients ready.
  • 3. Mix Ingredients for Batter Place ½ cup of the flour on a plate or in a pie tin, and set it aside. Place the remaining cup of flour in a medium bowl, and stir in the baking soda and salt. Combine the milk, vinegar, and 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil and mix it together. Add the wet ingredients to the dry and whisk them until it's really smooth and there aren't any lumps.
  • 4. Dip Candy Bars Once the oil is at 375 degrees, it's time to start dipping. If you have a huge pan you can probably do several at once, but it's easiest to just fry one at a time.
  • 5. Frying the Candy Bars Roll a candy bar in the flour then dip it in the batter, making sure that it's completely covered. Carefully lower it into the hot oil--you don't want to get too close and burn your fingers, but be carefully not to throw it in and cause oil to splatter. Use a slotted spoon to push down on the candy bar and keep it submerged in the oil so it cooks evenly. Once it's a beautiful, golden brown color, remove the candy bar from the oil and place it on a plate covered with paper towel to soak up the excess grease. Repeat the battering and frying process with the remaining candy bars.
  • 6. Serving Deep-Fried Candy Bars After your candy bars are fried, let them cool slightly, then dust them lightly with powdered sugar and serve while still slightly warm. The outside is crisp but the insides liquefy and become this awesome gooey, chocolatey, caramel heaven. They are outrageous! If you get these at a food stand on a pier, they'll typically offer a choice of toppings such as chocolate syrup, confectioner's sugar, cinnamon, whipped cream, etc. Personally, I don't think they need anything else, but if you're feeling dangerous, go for it! Enjoy!

DEEP-FRIED CANDY BARS WITH PINEAPPLE

Deep-Fried Candy Bars with Pineapple image

Provided by Nigella Lawson : Food Network

Categories     dessert

Time 8m

Yield 8 servings

Number Of Ingredients 5

2 quarts sunflower oil, for deep frying
1 ripe pineapple
1 cup self-rising flour
1 cup soda water
8 fun-size chocolate coconut bars (recommended: Mounds)

Steps:

  • Heat sunflower oil in a deep-fat fryer or a Dutch oven to 350 degrees F.
  • Cut the top and bottom off the pineapple, then quarter it vertically. Trim the woody core off each segment, and then lay it skin side down, and slice the flesh in half lengthwise, stopping when you feel the skin. Then cut it across into slices and run the knife between the flesh of the fruit and the outer husk. The pineapple pieces should come out easily. Squeeze the outer skin of the pineapple over the cut fruit to get every last bit of juice.
  • In a large bowl, add 1 cup of flour. Gently whisk in 3/4 cup of soda water, if the batter is too thick, add the 1/4 cup. It should be able to coat the candy bar easily. Submerge each chocolate coconut bar in the batter and place it right into the hot oil either with your fingers or tongs, allowing it to fry for about 3 minutes or until the batter is puffed up and golden brown. Using tongs, remove the battered chocolate coconut bars and place them on a paper towel lined plate. Transfer them to a plate aside the pineapple pieces, enjoy immediately.

BEER-BATTERED FRIES

Beer-Battered Fries image

Provided by Food Network

Categories     side-dish

Time 1h5m

Yield 4 to 6 servings

Number Of Ingredients 11

Oil, preferably peanut or grapeseed, for frying
3/4 cup white rice flour
1/4 cup cornstarch
1 teaspoon paprika
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon onion powder
1/8 teaspoon cayenne
Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper
1 to 1 1/4 cups light beer, such as pilsner
3 pounds russet potatoes, peeled and cut into batons 3 inches long, 1/2 inch wide and 1/4 inch thick, soaked in cold water

Steps:

  • Fill a small Dutch oven with 3 to 4 inches of oil and heat over medium heat until a deep-frying thermometer inserted in the oil registers 325 degrees F. Line a large plate or baking sheet with paper towels.
  • In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, cornstarch, paprika, baking powder, garlic powder, onion powder, cayenne, 2 teaspoons salt and 1/2 teaspoon black pepper. Add 1 cup of the beer and stir until smooth, adding more beer a tablespoon at a time if necessary until the batter is the consistency of heavy cream. Set aside.
  • Using kitchen towels, dry the potatoes thoroughly. Working in batches, slide the potatoes into the oil, being careful not to crowd the pan, and cook until lightly golden, about 5 minutes. Use a slotted spoon or skimmer to remove to the towel-lined plate and sprinkle with a few pinches of salt.
  • Raise the oil temperature to 350 degrees F. Dip the partially cooked fries a few at a time in the batter to coat. Using a fork, slide the coated potatoes 1 at a time into the oil, about 6 or 8 in a batch so as not to overcrowd the pan. Use a metal skimmer or tongs to keep them separate, as they tend to cling together. Cook until deep golden brown, 2 to 3 minutes. Remove to fresh paper towels to drain. Serve immediately.

STATE FAIR DEEP FRIED CANDY BARS

State Fair Deep Fried Candy Bars image

This is a recipe post more for laughs and shock value than to really home-make. It's definitely not healthy! But you recreate the deep-fried magic of state/county fairs and trips to Seaside right in your own kitchen! And it's not so horrible on the cholesterol level if you share it and only have maybe once a year ;) This is enough batter to coat two candy bars, maybe a third one. Milky Ways are the best for this but Snickers, Mars Bars, and 3 Musketeers also work-- pretty much anything with a gooey center that you can poke a skewer through, hard chocolate won't work.

Provided by the80srule

Categories     < 15 Mins

Time 10m

Yield 2 fried candy bars, 2 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 6

2 (12 ounce) chocolate candy bars (see description for suggestions)
1 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 cup cornstarch
1 pinch baking soda (about 1/8 tsp)
1 cup milk (this is approximate, see instructions)
canola oil or vegetable oil, for frying

Steps:

  • Chill the candy by keeping it in the fridge but don't freeze it or else this recipe won't work.
  • Sift the dry ingredients together in a bowl. Pour in milk until it's a rich, creamy consistency, this is give or take 1 cup.
  • Fully coat the candy in the batter.
  • DEEP FRYER METHOD.
  • Using a strong wooden skewer (metal will burn your hands severely), pierce it through the bottom and lower it into an oil-filled deep fryer and remove when golden brown, about 3-5 minutes.
  • PAN FRY METHOD.
  • Heat 1-2" of oil in a frying pan. Drop the battered candy bar into the oil and fry on all sides, turning with a spatula or slotted spoon. Remove when golden brown, about 5-8 minutes.
  • They are awesome when chopped into bits and served with ice cream!
