Number Of Ingredients 7

1 pound tofu, sliced into 8 even pieces
2 tablespoons soy sauce
2 tablespoons agave nectar
1 tablespoon toasted sesame oil
1 teaspoon minced garlic
1 teaspoon minced fresh ginger
1 tablespoon sesame seeds, or to taste

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Lightly oil a large baking sheet.
  • Gently press tofu pieces to release as much water as possible. Arrange tofu on the prepared baking sheet.
  • Whisk soy sauce, agave nectar, sesame oil, garlic, and ginger together in a bowl until marinade is evenly combined. Brush half of the marinade over tofu pieces.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 30 minutes. Flip tofu and brush remaining marinade over tofu. Sprinkle sesame seeds over tofu. Continue baking until tofu is crisp, about 30 minutes more. Transfer tofu to a wire rack using a spatula; cool.

BAKED TOFU WITH GINGER

Baked Tofu With Ginger image

I like tofu once in a great while, so when I saw this recipe, I decided to give it a try. It was wonderful! I didn't eat much as I made only 1 lb for about 12-14 people to taste. This would be fantastic with a vegetable stir-fry, basmati rice and a nice Zinfandel -- if you choose a nice salad. It takes 20 minutes to marinate -- mealsforyou. I don't like mango or chutney's very much so I was the one who added the apricot preserves.

Time 20m

Yield 4-6 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 12

1 lb tofu, cut into 3/4 inch slices
2 tablespoons low sodium soy sauce
3 scallions, trimmed and chopped (both white & green parts)
2 teaspoons vegetable oil
1 tablespoon sherry wine vinegar
1 tablespoon parsley, chopped
1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
1 pinch crushed red pepper flakes (optional)
1 teaspoon sesame oil
salt, if needed
fresh ground black pepper, if needed
1/4 cup homemade mango chutney (optional) or 1/4 cup all-fruit no-sugar apricot preserves (optional)

Steps:

  • Arrange tofu slices in a single layer in a non-reactive baking dish.
  • Combine remaining ingredients, except chutney, in a jar with a tight-fitting lid.
  • Shake vigorously.
  • Pour over tofu and marinate 20 minutes.
  • Preheat oven to 400°F.
  • Bake tofu in marinade 10-15 minutes.
  • Add a small amount of water if tofu becomes too dry.
  • Serve with chutney, if desired.

  • Preheat the oven to 400°. Press the tofu following the directions above while the oven preheats. Then cube the tofu into 1 inch pieces and spread out evenly across some parchment paper or a silpat on a baking sheet. Make sure the tofu isn’t overlapping so that each piece will bake evenly. Cook for 15-20 minutes until beginning to look crispy. After 20 minutes, take the sheet pan out. The tofu should show light signs of crispiness on its edges. Flip each piece of tofu over so that the side facing down is now facing up. Bake for 15-20 minutes until crispy.
  • After putting the tofu back in the oven, start to make the sauce. In a small bowl, mix together the orange juice, lemon juice, rice vinegar, soy sauce, brown sugar, red pepper flakes (or Sriracha), salt, and pepper. In another small bowl, mix together the cornstarch and water. Once the cornstarch is dissolved, add it to the sauce.
  • Heat a saucepan over medium heat with the oil. Add the garlic and ginger and saute quickly, about 30-60 seconds, until fragrant. Lower the heat to a medium-low and pour in the sauce mixture. Stir everything together.
  • Keep on a medium-low heat, occasionally stirring and allow sauce to thicken to the desired consistency, about 10-15 minutes.
