Time 4h25m

Number Of Ingredients 13

1 cup unsalted butter at room temperature
16 ounces powdered sugar
1-2 Tablespoons whole milk as needed
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 cup unsalted butter, softened
1 ¾ cup sugar
1 cup sour cream, at room temperature
2 large eggs, at room temperature
1 teaspoon vanilla
3 ½ cups all purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon baking powder
½ teaspoon salt

Steps:

  • In a large bowl, cream butter and sugar until light and creamy. You can use a stand mixer fitted with a paddle attachment or a large bowl and electric hand mixer.
  • Add the sour cream, eggs, and vanilla. Beat well, stopping to scrape the bottom and sides of your bowl, to incorporate ingredients until smooth.
  • Add the flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt and beat on low until dry ingredients are combined.
  • The dough will be very soft and this is what we're looking for. Refrigerate overnight.
  • Preheat oven to 350°F. Portion cookies using a tablespoon or cookie scoop. Portion cookies and roll into a ball between hands. Add cookie balls to a greased baking sheet.
  • Bake for 11-12 minutes until the center is set and the edges are just starting to turn a light golden brown.
  • Cream the butter in a large bowl using a stand mixer with a paddle attachment or a hand mixer.
  • Add the powdered sugar and mix on low-speed until all of the sugar is combined.
  • Add in milk, 1 Tbsp at a time and vanilla extract to reach desired consistency.

Aunt Alma's Sour Cream Date Cookies image

I was going thru my mom's old family recipes. I wanted to add this so it would not get lost, as it is very hard to read this old recipes. I hope you like it. As I have not had these in a long time. The recipe does not give the time and temp so this is just a guess. When someone makes this could you tell me and I will edit it. Thank you.

GREAT AUNT AUDRITA'S SOUR CREAM COOKIES (SUGAR COOKIE CUT-OUTS)

Great Aunt Audrita's Sour Cream Cookies (Sugar Cookie Cut-Outs) image

This is another treasured family recipe. These cookies are moist and light with a hint of nutmeg. Please note in the ingredients the amount of flour may be a bit off. You may need to use less or more than indicated. I haven't made these in a very long time, and my family doesn't always include measurements in recipes. Aunt Audrita noted on the recipe card "enough flour as needed to roll out properly". If anyone figures out (before I do) exactly how much that is, please write me a note!

Time 1h25m

Yield 24-36 cookies

Number Of Ingredients 10

2 cups sugar
1/2 cup shortening
1 cup sour cream
2 eggs
2 teaspoons baking soda
1/2 teaspoon nutmeg, ground
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 teaspoon salt
1 pinch cream of tartar
2 -3 cups flour (Amount may vary. Please see recipe description for explanation.)

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350°F.
  • In a large mixing bowl, cream together sugar, shortening, sour cream and eggs.
  • Then stir into mixture the baking soda, nutmeg, vanilla, salt and cream of tartar. Do not add flour just yet.
  • Chill mixture 1-24 hours.
  • Gradually add flour to chilled mixture until dough is stiff enough to roll for cut-out cookies.
  • On a generously floured work surface, roll out dough a little at a time with a rolling pin dusted with flour until 1/2-inch thick.
  • Use flour-dipped cookie cutters to cut into desired shapes. Place cut-outs onto a lightly greased cookie sheet, making sure to space cookies two inches apart.
  • Bake for 10-12 minutes or until tops of cookies are no longer shiny, and bottoms are lightly browned.
  • Cool on a wire rack.
  • Decorate with icing of your choice (optional) and store in an air-tight container.

AUNT EDITH'S SOUR CREAM COOKIES

Aunt Edith's Sour Cream Cookies image

When I first tasted these cookies, I was around 14 yrs old or so. I asked my mother, "Where have these been all my life?!" She laughed out loud. She left her cook book in AZ when she and Dad were snow birds. I found it couple yrs later. She is 85 now and came to visit me in Apache Junction for one whole month! Bless her heart for leaving her cookbook here! (Even though my sister who came too didnt want her to, haha!) I told her, "you get mom, I get her cookbook. you have the better deal!"

Steps:

  • Well, this was in my mom's cookbook, but without directions! I will try to see if I can find similar recipes, as I just called her and she cannot remember the particulars. :( Stay tuned but maybe some of you can figure it out. It said at the bottom: rolled and salt whatever that means. Okay! I found another recipe that sparked my memory and so see the next comment. (she added another egg though)
