This simple dessert makes the perfect ending to a family dinner. Easy to prepare with very few ingredients, this always gets wows from everyone. You can use either fresh or dried dates.

Ingredients

500 g pitted dates
4 large bananas
500 ml fresh single cream
1 teaspoon rose water (optional)
freshly grated nutmeg

Steps:

Slice the bananas and halve the dates.
Arrange in layers either in 4 individual glass dishes, or in one large glass dish.
Sprinkle with the rosewater.
Pour over the cream, and top with freshly-grated nutmeg to taste.
Cover and chill in refrigerator for 2 hours.
Serve and enjoy!

Ingredients

1/2 cup flour, sifted
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 cup dates, pitted and cut in eighths (raisins or other dried fruit can be used) (optional)
1 cup semisweet chocolate morsel
1 tablespoon lemon rind, grated
2 eggs
1/2 cup sugar

Steps:

Preheat oven to 325°F.
Sift flour, baking powder, and salt together and set aside.
Add the dates, if using, the chocolate, and the lemon rind.
Combine eggs and sugar and beat till thick. Fold into mixture.
Drop by teaspoonfuls on well-greased cookie sheet.
Bake at 325 F for 12 to 15 minutes.
