This recipe is meant to be used to make ornaments on wreaths, gifts or to hang on Christmas trees. If fragrance starts to fade, drop a little cinnamon oil on ornament.

3 cups applesauce
3 cups ground cinnamon

Steps:

  • Mix applesauce and cinnamon together until it is thick enough to hold a form when cut into cookie cutter shapes. Flatten the mixture on a flat surface and cut into cookie cutter shapes.
  • Place cookie shapes on a cookie sheet to dry for 3 to 4 days depending on the size and thickness of the cookies. If using as a hanging ornament, make hole with toothpick before drying.

1 cup applesauce
Approximately 3/4 cup ground cinnamon
2 tablespoons ground cloves
1 tablespoon ground nutmeg
1 tablespoon ground allspice
Green or red heavy thread
Straw or wooden skewer

Steps:

  • In a large bowl, combine the applesauce and spices; mix well until a stiff dough forms, adding additional cinnamon if needed., On a board dusted with additional cinnamon, roll out each portion of dough to 1/4-inch thickness. Cut into shapes using 1-1/2-in. cookie cutters dipped in cinnamon. Reroll scraps. Place cutouts on parchment-lined baking sheets., Using a straw or wooden skewer, make a small hole in the top of each of the ornaments., Bake at 200° for 20 to 30 minutes. Remove to paper towels to dry thoroughly. When completely dry and cool, string a ribbon strip or piece of thread through each hole; tie the ends together to for a loop.

A great substitute for those heavy, buttery cinnamon roll recipes. This one will blow you away. Just remember that the dough before the first rising may be a bit sticky, but not adding any more flour at this point guarantees a fluffy masterpiece.

¼ cup white sugar, divided
2 ½ teaspoons dry yeast
¾ cup warm water
1 ½ teaspoons ground cinnamon
2 eggs
¾ cup applesauce
½ teaspoon salt
4 ½ cups all-purpose flour
2 tablespoons honey
½ cup raisins

Steps:

  • Stir 1 tablespoon of the sugar and the yeast into the warm water in a small bowl. The water should be no more than 100 degrees F (40 degrees C). Let stand for 5 minutes until the yeast softens and begins to form a creamy foam. Whisk together the cinnamon and 2 tablespoons sugar in a small bowl; set aside.
  • Beat together the eggs, applesauce, salt, and the remaining 1 tablespoon of sugar in a large bowl. Stir in the yeast mixture. Beat in half of the flour mixture until no dry spots remain. Stir in the remaining flour, a 1/2 cup at a time, mixing well after each addition to form a sticky dough. Turn it out onto a lightly floured surface and knead until fairly smooth but still sticky, about 8 minutes.
  • Lightly oil a large bowl, then place the dough in the bowl and turn to coat with oil. Cover with a light cloth and let rise in a warm place (80 to 95 degrees F (27 to 35 degrees C)) for 30 minutes. Grease a 9x13 inch baking pan.
  • Deflate the dough and turn it out onto a lightly floured surface. Roll the dough into a 16x20 inch rectangle. Spread the honey over the dough; sprinkle evenly with the cinnamon sugar and raisins. Beginning with the long side, roll the dough tightly into a log shape, and pinch to seal the seam. Cut into 12 equal size pieces. Place the rolls into the prepared pan cut side up. Cover the pan with a damp cloth and let rise until doubled in volume, about 30 minutes.
  • Preheat an oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
  • Bake in the preheated oven until golden brown, about 30 minutes.

2 large eggs, room temperature
1-1/4 cups unsweetened applesauce
1/4 cup canola oil
3 tablespoons 2% milk
1/4 cup packed brown sugar

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350°. In a large bowl, combine the flours, sugar, 1 teaspoon cinnamon, baking soda, salt, baking powder and nutmeg. In a small bowl, whisk the eggs, applesauce, oil and milk. Stir into dry ingredients just until moistened. , Transfer to a greased 9x5-in. loaf pan. 1 (1/4 ounce) package active dry yeast
1 cup applesauce
1/2 cup buttermilk
7 teaspoons sugar
2 tablespoons butter
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 egg, lightly beaten
2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
1 cup powdered sugar
1 tablespoon buttermilk
1/2 teaspoon vanilla

Steps:

  • Put dry ingredients together.
  • Heat milk, butter, 2 Tbsp sugar, salt,and 3/4 cup applesauce and add to dry mixture along with the egg.
  • Knead dough for 3-5 minutes (add extra flour as needed) then cover for 1 hour.
  • Punch down dough and roll out to 12 inch square.
  • Spread 1/4 cup applesauce, 1/3 cup sugar, and cinnamon on dough.
  • Roll up and cut into 12 even slices.
  • Cover and let double.
  • Bake in 2 8x8 pans for 20-25 minutes at 375°F.
  • Make icing (combine all ingredients and mix).

4 large eggs
1 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
3/4 cup sugar
1/2 cup applesauce
FILLING:
1 package (8 ounces) cream cheese, softened
3 tablespoons whole milk
1/4 cup confectioners' sugar
1/2 cup raisins
Additional confectioners' sugar, optional

Steps:

  • In a bowl, beat eggs. Combine flour, cinnamon and cloves. Add to eggs along with sugar; mix well. Add applesauce. Line a 15x10x1-in. pan with waxed paper, and grease and flour the paper. Pour batter into pan. Bake at 400° for 15 minutes. Turn out onto a linen towel dusted with confectioners' sugar. Peel off paper and roll cake up in towel. Let cool. Meanwhile, for filling, beat cream cheese, milk and sugar in a small bowl. Stir in raisins. Unroll cake; spread filling to within 1 in. of edges. Roll up again.
